Are you sure it is not getting a little hot? If the oil pressure gets lower when it warms up it is probably running a little hot. That will cause a build up. Does it still have the heater boxes? If so you need the flex pipes from the fan connected, this will keep the boxes cooler They can cook the oil in the rocker covers. VW incorporated a…[Read more]

You need the VW heater Flexes. You can find them on Ebay. Then you need a piece of pipe to go through the wall to under the seat. If you use PVC get some that is rated for Hot Water, or else it may get soft. I would recommend relocating the speakers, the sound will be better.

  •  The best place is on the cooling Housing on the left side as close as possible to the Generator. I would put in an alternator if it was me. I converted mine and it is great!   No dimming lights at Idle, and no regulator. You have to change the mounting base, and fuel pump and push rod. Takes about 2 hours to convert. It is just a much better sy…[Read more]

  • I recently bought a MG TD Relpica from a boy in the Navy, he said the car was in good condition. I bought it from him, it needed the paint buffed out professionallly like he said, and new tires. I drove the car back from Florida, about 1200 miles with no problems. I advise that you get a mechanic to look at it before purchasing, if the seller…[Read more]

  • I have one that has a red mg logo, if you are interested. PM me for an email address.

No Body said they were smart, I picked up the car in Florida an it was raining like crazy when they put the tires on and I did not look till I hit a motel in Tennessee, it cleared the fenders barely, but not the body when you made a tight right turn. They said they would not be responsible for the body damage, at least I got the right tires.

  • The plug on the relief spring will give you a accurate reading of what the oil temp is in the oil journals. Mine is set up that way and works fine. The higher the resistance the lower the temp, the resistance gets lower as the temp increases, getting to zero at max limit. If replacing the plug be careful to make sure you have a good seal, because…[Read more]

  • Mi Design classic is insured with State Farm for $10,000. My agent had no problems, it took a couple of weeks to get the underwriters to decide.

No, They put the wrong size tires on the car, they were almost 3 inches too tall. They did some damage to the body. They finally got the right tires, but I had a manager tell me that if he had known it was a kit car body he would have told me to find another Pep Boys.   Now we are starting the fight over the body. I highly recommend that you use a…[Read more]

  • Because of all the different manufactures I would try to find who made yours. Prorbably a CMC/ Fiberfab. You might want to get a boat or car upholstery shop to make the top to fit. Mine is a little short on head room for me. I am 6 foot 1. Good luck and welcome aboard. What part of the country do you live in?

  • The dimensions are pretty much what you want for comfort. I am making new bottoms for mine, and I have cut the foam so it is a little taller at the side edges, to keep my bum in the middle, this requires cutting two wedges to glue to the top. Be sure not to make them too wide, this can cause problems when you put something in the door pocket. I am…[Read more]

Watch out for the 2 inch taller tires. I have some body damage on the inside behind the front fender. If you go taller you will need to reset the stops for right and left turn radius. If you don’t it can get ito the fiberglass where it laps over the Pan. It is a difficult repair as I will need to take part of the body off. Make sure you have…[Read more]

  • I made mine from some Plexiglas from Lowes. You can cut it with a Jig-Saw. Then sand the edges, and they will look great, and it is cheap.  Cut them out with a fine tooth scroller blade, but not super fine as it will get hot and weld itself back together as you cut.  Learned that the hard way. It takes an afternoon, but saves a bundle.

  • VWs are to work on and get to parts. I had a Corvette that you had to pull the engine , or at least lift it up 8 inches off the mounts to change the spark plugs.  Maybe I just like the VWs beacause I have a ton of metric tools. The 30 pict will perform as well as the 34 it depends on the jets. If the carb is not jetted right for the engine, it d…[Read more]

  • Vws are prone to vapor lock because the pump is on the motom and in hot weather the long fuel ine gets a little vapor and no suction can be drawn on the vapor. once it cools off they are fine. it small leak will also allow it to suck air. It is a suction pump. an in tank electric pump and a fuel pressure regulator will stop the problem. put the…[Read more]

  • What brand is your gauge? The VW sending unit is 10-80 OHMs, and was made by VDO. But many of the after market gauges such as VDO Cockpit Royale uses a 10-180 ohm sending unit. You have to match the unit to the gauge, because it is just an analog ohm meter as previously stated by others. The sending unit also come in different sizes, for different…[Read more]

  • Judson made a supercharger for VW’s in the 70’s. I put one on a Super V engine in a Berry Mini-t. The car weighed about 900 pounds and was put on a dyno and tested out at 400hp. I used it on a 1/8 mile drag strip in Muncie Indiana. We ran 15″ wide M&H drag slicks, and had serious weelie bars. It was street legal and fast.   I don’t think they ar…[Read more]
