  •  VWs made befor 1968 have swing rear axles, The axles are enclosed  within a larger tube and only have the ability to pivot at the end near the transaxle. This results in the wheel leaning in at the top when the rear of the car is loaded and out at the top when the car is carrying less weight.
VWs made in 1968 and later have a rear suspension wi…[Read more]

Welcome aboard, don’t worry about being a novice . Every one here started as a novice but learned as we went along. We are glad to share our ”wealth of knowledge” with those who are just getting started or may have ran into something needing an explanation.
Our cars are replicas of the MGTD which was built from 1950 thru 1953 with very small ,…[Read more]

  •  Look in the MP Lafer section. Paul has a link to some pictures there.

  •  Hey Dick, I’m not trying to contradict Paul’s advice, but if I remember correctly, your London Roadster is one of the rare ones using the VW engine and transaxle but built on a custom chassis with coilover shocks on all four wheels. If that’s the setup, the shocks may not be typical VW type and you would need to replace them with shocks designed…[Read more]

  •  Paul, Two great minds at work! I’m just the slower of the two. I type slower as well.Embarrassed

  •  Allen, On the original MG, the underside of the fenders is the same color as the top side of the fender. Most replicas are black under the fenders. Some builders use some type of undercoating.Paul used a black paint, not flat, not glossy, but he said that it made the VW chassis parts seem to disappear. Perhaps he will reply and share this with us…[Read more]

  •  Mel, Great story!! Great car!!! You and Pauline look good ,a perfect match for the car.

  •  Paul, There is a Classic Roadster Duchess VW based manual in the download manuals section located in the aqua section to the left. It’s quite detailed compared to some of the other ones.

  •  Montie, I goofed again.OuchI forgot that the seat tapers toward the base with the amount of floor space being somewhat smaller than the top of the seat.. On my BCW,the person who did the seats for Mark  must have used the method I described above. The seat bottoms are pretty much the same top to bottom . The bottom is as big as the floor space a…[Read more]

  •  Allen, I can’t remember if the upholstry came with your kit ,but if you have it ,you would need to make the seat boards the same size and shape as the seat covers to get a good fit.You could trace arround the top edge of the cover to make a pattern for the base.

  •  Tom, My VWbased London Roadster has a custom fuel tank ,however it is located beneath the floor of the trunk and the entire compartment is  covered with carpet which is glued in place. It is a square alluminum tank about 24”x24” x 8” deep. The ”lower floor”’of the compartment is designed to provide a mounting place for the tank. The filler p…[Read more]

  •  Montie, Trust me ,a 100 lb wife is not something heavy. You should have said ”My wife who only weighs about 100 lbs, helped me with the project”LOL Glad you made the seats better and thanks for the helpful hints.

They made it to the photo gallery.
Beautiful dash !! Are those duplicates of the back of each gauge with the wires attached in the respective positions?
    That’s a neat console also.

  •  Pat, That is great news!!!Glad you were able to reach an agreeable figure on a really neat car.
I’m still riding on my ”new” 2004 tires but then I’m not exactly going fast or far ,just put putting along so to speak.

Mike, I could not have expressed MY THOUGHTS as well as you. I to find myself looking for scenic roads where I can go slow enough to see and smell what’s out there.
Dan R has it right when he says ”I’m not in a hurry , I’m where I want to be.”
We just have to be careful not to get in someone’s way.

  •  Hi Pat, Welcome to the forum!
There is a Ford based Classic Motor Carriages replica for sale in Reidsville NC.The engine has been recently rebuilt by a local mechanic and has some performance modifications. It’s red with a white top and tan interior and auto trans. The car is very low mileage and looks good. It’s at Randy Keaton Auto Sales in d…[Read more]

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic Luggage racks in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years ago

I’m not sure that you can use a rack designed for the MG on your London Roadster. They mount to the rear of the body using the same mounts as the spare tire rack and the lower mounts attach to the bumper brackets If you enlarge the Moss picture, you can get an idea of how the rack fits to the MG.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic What type of tow bar? in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

BDriver, You forgot to tell where to point the pointy end of the test light. If  I understand it correctly ,the clip on the test light wire is connected to a ground on the engine and the pointed end connects to the small wire terminal on the distributor. Please correct me if this is not correct.
On the engine tin setup, I fully agree to the fac…[Read more]

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic Allison Daytona MGTD in the forum TD Replicas 14 years ago

Yes, Allison did build a front engine version. There were two on e-bay in the last two years, one in Va.and one in Tenn. The engine and drivetrain were Nissan. Very nice and very rare. The one in Tenn. was being sold by a grandaughter to help her grandmother. The asking price was $13.000.I don’t know if  they sold it. I think the one in Va. did s…[Read more]
