Mark, I just checked the cap on my London Roadster. There is a hole, about 1/16 ”in diameter, that appears to have been drilled thru the cap . It’s in the slot that is used to remove the cap. I’ve owned the car since 1994 and had not noticed the hole before. If your cap does not have a hole in it,that just may solve your problem.

  •  Rich, A new member on the forum , Gunfighter , bought it arround the last of May. He has posted pictures and more info but I don’t remember either the seller or the new owner revealing the price.
It is one fine TD REPLICA.

Look in my photo gallery. The picture of the seats looking thru the right door is the position I started with.Too far back for me to reach the pedals at 5′-8”. The picture looking thru the left door is my present location ,about 2” to the front with the front of the seats raised up 1”.I have the rear of the seat bottoms directly on the floor…[Read more]

Tom, Richard Wobby here on the forum also has an Allison .He is active here when time allows.Larry, from Florida  has a nice red one but he dosen’t post here very often.
Question, Does the Allison top fold down or do you have to remove it . Looking at Larry’s pictures with the frames arround the quarter windows,I can not see how the top could f…[Read more]

  •  Unless your London Roadster is one of the rare ones on a custom chassis with coil springs over the shock absorbers, a tow bar for the standard VW beetle should work. The super beetle has strut suspension and requires a different tow bar to hook up.

  •  My understanding is that the freeway flyer transaxle is found in the super beetle and is geared higher than the reg. beetle.I have a friend who made the swap and is happy with it. PinkMG [Mark] had one in the TD he sold to Bill Collins.

GunFighter, Glad you got the Allison!!!It is a great looking car. You’ll enjoy it  for years to come.Hope you realize just how rare it is. Quality all the way.

CMC bought out FiberFab according to my info, so the cars are very much alike, the tops appear to be the same.
BCW did make a front engine model, it uses Chevette mechanicals on a custom built chassis.I am blessed to own one of them.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic new member in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years, 1 month ago

I agree that parts availability is a good thing, you never know when you may need some. The CMC diminsions are relatively close to the original MG but fitting a folding windshield will require trimming the molded in mounts off the cowl even if the measurments do check out.The folding windshield option was used when racing the MG to reduce wind…[Read more]

  •  Paul, I have always heard that the truth is stranger than fiction and your story seems to back that up.Glad that no one was hurt or killed in the incident.

  •  Is the top snug without excess loosness which will cause it to flop in the wind? If it’s loose ,you can raise the front bow by loosening the set screws in the sliding bracket and positioning the front bow in a higher position on the rear bow. Also ,unless the top has  loops  sewn in it for the bows to pass thru, you will need to add two st…[Read more]

  •  Thanks Montie. I checked your gallery and then I remembered seeing the seats when you first posted them. Just goes to show that where there’s a will, there’s a way. That’s a real good looking TD you’ve got.

  •  Bill, Truly a unique interior. You must be a tall guy as far back as the backrest is positioned. Could you post more pics of how you got it  there.? We recently had a member to sell a car that he had just purchased because his legs were too long and he had to remove the backrest to drive it.
We would like to see more of the entire car too.It lo…[Read more]

  •  Montie, I used STP in my 68 Camaro 230  6 cyl.It was still going strong at better than 150,000 when my son’s friend wrecked his 73 Chevelle and we bought the 350 out of it. I haven’t used it recently but am going to look in to it now. It sure makes a screwdriver slip out of your finger and thumb . I remember that was how the parts guys would c…[Read more]

  •  Try to turn the engine using a wrench on the  crankshaft pulley. That will tell you if the engine is locked up or if you have a starter or other electrical problem.
A pressure washer or coin operated car wash should clean off the oil.
After you get the engine cleaned off .you can look for where the oil is coming from.If it is leaking at the cra…[Read more]

  •  WOW!!! i KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE AN ADVENTURE!! That’s a great story and one you will remember for a long time. Now that it’s home, you will have much less trouble getting the bugs out.
Be sure that the oil leak is not coming from the valve covers or push rod tubes before you tear into the engine.

  •  Dan, Glad you folks were not hurt!! Hail of that size would have been disasterous to almost any thing it hit..I guess the TD is really special to be the one under the carport. Hope things work out good for you.

  •   When I got my BCW from Mark the BCW emblem had already been removed before he had the grille shell rechromed. I atached it with trim adhesive when I assembled it. I have since replaced it with a MG emblem ,but there was a hole in the fiberglass behind emblem which is large enough to use a deep socket on an extension.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic New to Club in the forum Car Registry 14 years, 1 month ago

I’m not sure how the seats are mounted in the VW based TD ,my BCW is Chevette based, but you may be able to lower the seats by reworking the seat bases and get the clearence you need and gain head room as well. Do some checking before you start cutting.
If you decide to move the column, Ed’s advice seems right on and well thought out.
