  •  Denora, Just ask any questions here on the forum and you will get answers and advice from several knowledgeable members. We enjoy sharing our information some of which has been learned the hard way.
There is also a Chevette forum managed by Rick Drake who is a real guru as far as Chevettes are  concerned. It’s easy to find ,just search for Ch…[Read more]

  •  Steve, It’s good to have you in the group. You are really going for it starting off with three of these at once.I had three at the same time for about a week but two are enough. A sort of his and hers if you know what I mean.
About posting pictures,  On the first page of the forum the second item is picture postings. Click on it and it leads to…[Read more]

  •  Ed, search the web for   posti’s bcw  . You will see how one BCW owner replaced his master cylinder without cutting and by himselfThis is a neat site ,unfortunately he has sold his BCW and now has a MGTC.

  •  Ed,  I cut an access hole under the fender when I replaced my master cylinder . On my car there is a flat panel beside the master cyl.I made the opening just big enough to get my hand thru to get a wrench to the bolts. I covered it with a piece of sheet metal held in place with screws. This area was previously undercoated and it is barely v…[Read more]

  •  Ed, If the pedal feels right [ not spongy] but goes down farther than you like,it sounds like the problem may be in the adjustment . Did you adjust all four wheels? If you had a full pedal some time in the past ,the master cylinder push rod adjustment must be correct. You need a small amount of clearence in the rod to insure that the master cyl.…[Read more]

  •  Phil’s answer jogged my brain . My car has the batt. under the right seat in the original VW position and uses the VW bat. cables as well so I assumed [apparently incorrectly] that the batt. cables were already in place.. Phil is correct in saying you need to run a batt. cable from the batt.+ to the starter and also a ground cable from the…[Read more]

  •  I checked my factory built VW based car this a.m. and basically confirmed the info I posted previously.
A large blue wire connects to the same terminal on the starter that the + batt. cable connects to.I  found what I believe to be the other end of this wire connected to the right side of the ampmeter as viewed from behind the dash. This is th…[Read more]

  •  WOW!!!  With a start like that ,things have got to get better.I bet that REV. did a double take when you had it towed back to his house.Post some pictures when you can and let us know how the work progresses.

  •  The wiring rev. E shows wire 23 connected to the starter as well as to the ampmeter.. . I  came to this conclusion by putting two of the diagrams together, hope I’m seeing correctly since I’m looking sideways and thru bifocals. The bat cable from the + batt. terminal would also connect to the same starter terminal ,and if I am correct, all the c…[Read more]

  •  I looked at revision E and it shows wire # 15 connected to the left ampmeter terminal and then continuing to somewhere ? not shown . Wire # 23 connects to the right side of the ampmeter. The wires are labeled according to the manual but I did not see any reference to what color they were. Are you using a harness supplied with the kit or from…[Read more]

Rich, That was some kind of a bad deal. Hope you at least got some quality time with Lauren.
Your Allison TD is a rare and special car that is worthy of a quality engine, but I would have to know just how bad the engine is damaged before making a decision. I’m not trying to say patch it up but it may not be as bad as it looks.Pull it out and b…[Read more]

  •  Here is my solution. My London Roadster has a bench seat with holes cut out under the driver and passenger. After about an hour in the seat I would begin to feel the edge of the hole thru the foam as the area beneath me would sink deeper into the hole in the plywood, I used screws to fasten a piece of sheet metal to the lower side of the b…[Read more]

  •  Jim, I looked at a picture of a FiberFab car with no carpet on the side panel and you may gain an inch or more space on the left side by glueing the carpet directly to the inside of the side panel. I’m guessing that the carpet is fitted to some type of backboard to hold it in place.
The roller pedal for the gas looks like it may have p…[Read more]

  •   Jim,  In your photo it appears that your clutch foot ,or possibly the clutch pedal is already rubbing the side panel so spreading the pedals farther apart may not be an option .Somewhere ,I remember seeing a Ford based car with the clutch pedal extended and raised to make it higher and not directly in line with the brake . This would keep your f…[Read more]

  •  Allen, Almost all the cars I have seen just use the foam covered with the upholstry material.I saw one Fiber Fab kit that had been fitted with bucket seats from a Jeep Cherokee.

Tom, After you start it and it stops running, check to see if you have fire to the coil at the terminal the wire coming from the ign.switch connects   to. The ign. switch may be sending current to the coil when it’s in the start position which would explain why the engine starts but loosing the connection when it is in the run position.
     If you…[Read more]

  •  James, The frosty is the excuse [reason] for the ride so it has to come home untouched. The secret is that it is always a greater distance  T O Wendys then the distance FROM Wendys back home.Smile

  •  Mike,, Looks good!! I’ve been trying to figure out something like that my self. I have to get my wife’s Frosty at WENDYS put in a bag so I don’t spill it on the way home.
By the way, I saw your car in the photo gallery, very nice.!!! I liked the old mill background too.

  •  Well you have already got advice from an owner showing that these cars can be stored without a garage and some really practical suggestions on why it might be advisable to wait till you have school behind , so now I’ll throw in my opinion.
These cars have little to offer as far as comfort, convience, safety or any other things we demand in our v…[Read more]
