I’m not sure how the bench seat and the seat supports are fitted in the Classic Roadster Duchess, but in my London Roadster, the bench seat bottom rests on fiberglass support boxes on each side of the tunnel. The battery sits in the right box in the original VW location.  A small metal  bracket ,about 4” by 1” angle attaches to the plywood seat bo…[Read more]

  •  Greg, I cannot remember seeing a green top . Many  TD’s use a top that matches the interior, however, Paul Mossberg’s red car has a red top and a white interior and it looks great. With our cars ,I think it’s more a matter of personal preference than what’s right or wrong.I also like white cars with white tops. The lighter color tops are cooler t…[Read more]

Bill, After you wet sand, try using rubbing compound  to being back the gloss. If you are not sanding completely thru the gelcoat, there should be some shine left.

  •  Hi Norman and welcome to the group!!! If you notice that the first two responses to your questions are very much alike, it’s because both the guys were responding at nearly the same time. That’s how eager we are to help. Just about every problem you will encounter, someone here has already been there and will be glad to share the solution that…[Read more]

  •  DickH, I ‘m assuming you are referring to upgrading to a progressive two barrel carb since some Chevettes used them. It would require changing the intake manifold since the one barrel manifold carb mounting surfaces would not match up with the larger two barrel carb. I do not know of any one barrel carbs for upgrade purposes but I’m no expert on…[Read more]

  •  Sorry, but it’s just not possible.

  •  Ed, Dick’s BCW is Chevette based like the one I have. BCW had to design shock mounts to clear the TD fenders as the Chevette shocks would not fit  in the stock position.I’m guessing that they cut the springs which along with the lighter weight of the TD gives a stiff ride.

  • IMHO, the shocks should be near the center of travel  when the car’s weight is on the wheels. That will allow the shocks to compress when the springs compress when going over a bump etc.and extend when the wheel drops into a hole. Are the new shocks the same length as the old ones? If your BCW’S front suspension is as stiff as mine , the springs…[Read more]

  •  Andy, Welcome to the forum.Rick Drake is the Chevette guru for sure. He heads up a forum for Chevette owners and fans.Several of our members have been helped both with advice and parts. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your car.

  •  Thanks for all the replies. I guess the bottom line is be sure of the size before you order a new one.I remember on MG Magic’s website it says that you need to call them about most every thing since many changes were made and are often undocumented.

  •   Dan, I have the typical VW lights, as used on most TD replicas. However, it is set up with two double filament bulb sockets which mount directly to the fender. The VW lens and trim ring simply mount directly over the bulbs and sockets. The top bulb is for tail light & turn signal , the bottom bulb is for tail light & brake light. Works great  a…[Read more]

  •  Buzz, Are you referring to height or width or both? I have noticed that some CMC cars appear to have grilles of a slightly different size or at least that’s what I remember.

  •  Thanks Dan, I think I would need to use the complete assembly to make it work. Still not a bad price though.

  •  Dan, Are  you referring to the tail light assembly or only the lens? If I’m looking at the same item ,the light assemblys are $31.99 each. Still a good price. I’m thinking about  replacing the VW lights on my London Roadster and these are the most reasonable ones that I’ve seen.

  •  This thread taught me something today.I thought that the LR’s on VW pans had the bumps on the running boards and that the custom chassis models did not. After reading Roy’s comment the bumps, I looked in the old photo gallery and saw that JBerry’s car has bumps but MGLRoadste’s car does not. Both cars are custom chassis models. You never get too…[Read more]

  •  I agree,, London Roadster on a VW pan. As far as I know, All LR’s used Daytona MiGi bodies, that’s why they look like MiGi’s. LR assembled them ,added  a few special touches, a really nice interior and then put that gas filler cap on the left side of the hood. I’ve owned one since 1994 and the gas cap has always bugged me.Wish they had left it u…[Read more]

  • Roy, Yes , High Point is about 35 miles from me. If you get to her game ,perhaps you could swing by Reidsville. I’d be glad to meet you and show you my cars.

  • Roy,The inside of my top was faded and mildewed . I used black spray bomb fabric spray .It looks good and it’s  been three years since I did it. Could you peel off all the layer of fabric that’s seperating from the rest of the top material and then spray the inside ? I think I got the stuff at Oreilly Auto for under $10.
