Bob replied to the topic Rust in gas tank in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 7 months ago
I removed my leaking tank and still need to get a new tank. Been using a portable plastic tank, a little 3 gallon size, for a year now. 50 mile range without worry and haven’t actually been motivated enough yet to get the new metal tank.
MG Magic has the correct tank and instructions for cutting and welding the filler neck so it will fit under…[Read more]

I like your new car, mostly for its boat tail, but what were they thinking when putting shag carpet in it!? Sound deadening maybe?
Looks like a better body design than those other two on ebay, although at only $4500 for the one in Vegas sure would tempt me if in that area. And I don’t have space for another car. The “100000 miles” on it makes me…[Read more]

Best of luck with it! Braking is something I’ve been (re)learning to do right, and skidding least as I can, ever since getting my MGTDr!

Bob replied to the topic Steering Box Adjustment – Need to cut a hole in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 11 months ago
The hole I would need for mine is pretty much exactly where the light/badge bar mounts on that side.Have new steering gear box to go in and if I could squeeze a small screwdriver-sized hole in there without messing up that bar mount position I think I will try it while the old gear box is out before new goes in. A simple rubber grommet or plug l… -

Good to have you here!Hope to see that hard top since I know those have been mentioned before by others yet seldom exist apparently. If you change the gen/alt belt be sure to tighten the pulley nut to a torque of 43 ft-lbs. Tore my pulley off (picture somewhere I think) just after I got my VW MG from trying to tighten back the way I found it– to… -

:-)Good to have you here, just sorry I won’t be of much use to you since I’ve never built any kit car.Have a place on Smith Lake at the east edge of Winston County along the White Oak branch. Hope I see your car on the road or at a show/cruise-in someday.BobLRH2016-05-27 00:44:48

Bob replied to the topic What is this Gauge? in the forum General Discussion 8 years, 11 months ago
I knew it had to be oil when looking at the picture before reading about it, just thought they always said “oil pressure” so that’s a first for me.Mine tends to stay around 25 PSI, using 20W-50 Mobil 1 oil. I keep wanting to try 10W-30 instead and risk the thinner oil so it isn’t having to push a thicker oil. Never gave the original (mystery) oil… -

Lucky girl! Was either bus ride or 3 mile walk for me at 14. 😀Maybe she can get taken other places besides school this summer.Would also make a good learner car away from any traffic. Although I sure hope you don’t give her the key and let her go in it before she’s 20 years old, these cars being fairly unsafe and not at all like the store-bought kind! -

Noticed my new notebook/tablet with Windows 10 and the Edge web browser has trouble like that too. Likewise for Emoticons. This site says…Error inserting object in current location.Only get that unless something is already written into this message box.test:And even so I still get that error first.yet this emoticon is added without the error, e…

Royal wrote:I can only think of one reason why this should not workAir being compressible and water is not…? Would lose a little amount of volume in the procedure I guess.I was thinking maybe oil in place of air but then you would need to stand the engine on its side to do that. So I like your way instead. -

Don’t forget about gasoline running through the carburetor(s) if a mechanical fuel pump not electric. That would wash into the engine cylinders and oil since no burn is taking place. Could be the worst of it if didn’t actually over rev.(edit: I realize the float(s) should prevent that, no throttle opening, but even idle lets gas through).Yeah, a… -

Good to see! ;):D I like the flat black and red wheel caps.I have those same headlight brackets, mine have some corrosion so tried polishing using a Dremel but only managed to shine it up temporarily. Considered painting them black, still undecided. Also still considering adding hood centerpiece and manometer like you have already.Noticing you… -

Good to have you here.I’ve said it before and I will say it again, especially since you don’t know VW’s– although this is more about just being stupid than car specific– DO NOT make the same mistake I did if/when changing the gen/alt belt!I’ll explain… one of the first things I did was replace the old belt, even though the engine supposedly… -

Sorry I never made it there this year. Water meter pipe break kept me busy most of the week and I went to a softball tournament all day Saturday until almost midnight. That wasn’t going to stop me but I was expecting the temperature to be almost 80 degrees Sunday according to an earlier forecast. No problem driving the open car if that were true… -
Bob replied to the topic What's with tire shops and pressure in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years ago
Got a new tire at a Pep Boys, put on a 2 year old car with good tires, had a couple small punctures next to each other so they wouldn’t do a repair.Checked pressure the next day with digital meter on small portable compressor, said just under 30 PSI. Specs for car say 33 all around. Not much difference but the surprise was to find it below the us… - Load More
