  • Greg I really like your spare tire cover. Did you get it made local or order it online?

  • Here in the south a Pecan is a nut you can use to bake a tasty pie , but a Peecan is bucket kept under the bed to keep us from having to go outside at night to use the toilet.
Hey my 100th post was a potty joke!

  • Thanks for the link Paul. I would love to have some, but at $240.00 per side I think I will just keep what I have. They arent as pretty, but at least they hold my head light buckets up. I might keep an eye on ebay for some that need refurbishing.

The work I have seen by the Amish has been outstanding . They really care about the details and a job done right. Not many Amish around Memphis. We do have some rednecks that could make a dandy top from duct tape.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I resemble that remark! My duct taping is just so so, but I am a pro with bailing wire.

  • Rocky I have been enjoying your restoration since the beginning.
I like how you have been giving a narration of the process along with the photos.
I wish I had  headlight mounting brackets like you have on my CMC/FF. They are much nicer than the brackets on mine.
Keep up the good work and the progress reports.

The TD is still my favorite, but aint she purty! I am curios if this is a fairly new kit being produced? I have not heard of any of the members here having one nor talk of seeing one. Arent they producing a TF style kit in New Zealand?

  • John,
Larry is right about the studs on the medallions. I used Mcmaster carr part# 9716K52 which is a spring type washer that will hold tension on the medallion and keep the rattle out. The medallions from Moss Motors look very nice. It should be an easy change out to put them on your car.

  • Royal thats good news when your work pays off like it did. Just curious as to what your engine temp was and what weight oil you are using. Sounds like you earned the good nights sleep.

  • I do the same in the reading department Royal . It seems when you come across some information and think that makes perfect sense, then along comes some other info that seems to contradict the first. I do believe the German engineers knew what they were doing in the tin deparment for cooling and that it should be left intact. These forums are…[Read more]

  • Royal I have read the exact same thing about the air flow through the heater boxes helps to keep the area cool over the valve cover . I dont disagree, but my heater boxes are not hooked up to my fan and when i pointed my infrared thermometer at them they were much cooler than the surrounding bare exhaust. I do know when you run J pipes instead o…[Read more]

  • Royal,
since this thread was started I have been leaning toward the pump/filter combo so I have been trying to find out info at the samba. As with most things VW they are split about 50/50 on this subject. The only combo they recommend is the Maxi 2 from CB performance. They also say to leave the oil strainer in to catch larger particles before…[Read more]

    Paul,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers .

  • I have the same four oulet Paul and am changing out to the EMPI 3487 very soon. I think the single outlet looks great on the VW TDs and have admired it since Ed first posted photos of his. It is a shame you cant get it in ceramic. I plan to knock the factory paint off it and repaint it with high temp paint before installation. On my EMPI 4 tip the…[Read more]

  • Mike replied to the topic Spin on oil filter in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 8 months ago

Royal I am changing my exhaust to the EMPI 3487 before spring driving starts.  My oil pump is a little on the weak side and I will probably replace it at the same time. Your talk of a spin on filter pump has me thinking of going that route. Even if the spin on filter is not needed, I look at it with the ” chicken soup cant hurt theory”. Filtering…[Read more]

  • The wheels look great Mark. I had forgot how clean  a smoothie on a chrome wheel looks. I had the same set up minus the Mg logo on a 68 Camero when I still had the teen in my age. I wouldnt mind seeing a photo of your car with the wheels showing.

  • Gunfighter,
I had already decided on the smoothies. I drilled the mounting hole in a lathe to ensure the medallions would run true. I originally bought one flat style and one smoothie for comparison. I have a complete set of 5 smoothies with medallions mounted. Your aluminum disc idea would be a good idea for those that choose the flat style with…[Read more]

  • Beautiful car Mark. It color looks like one I saw for sale down the road from me in I believe Clarksville Arkansas. If it is the same car you have made some very nice improvements! Your rear cover support looks like the one I made for mine out of 1″ aluminum tube with rubber chair leg caps for non skid. I keep mine in the front trunk where it will…[Read more]

Allen I have the ahooga type horn on mine and although it is not extremely loud  the sound is so out of place it seems to get everyones attention. Kids love it and I have to admit I am a large child and like it too. I have been giving thought to adding airhorns, wiring them to the center horn button for ease of reach and putting the klaxon type…[Read more]

Allen  those are some great results. I am not surpised at what it did for the scratches even tho I was only using it to remove haze. What did amaze me was the slight amount of car color that came off in my micro fiber polishing towel. The area with the haze was very rough to the touch, but after was smooth like glass. I am happy it worked out f…[Read more]
