Thanks guys. Moneypenny gets a break today as its 90% chance of thunderstorms. Its raining right now. But she’s covered nicely and I’ll get back to her tomorrow after my shift at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation. I volunteer there Tuesdays and Thursdays. Info desk in the AM and afternoons I scoot over to the next hangar and help restore the B-17…[Read more]

Gotta change the oil and get her seats in and then take the top and tonneau cover to our local “Over the Top” convertible top specialists. I’m going to let them handle the convertible top install and fit the tonneau cover. Almost there!

Before a bit of downpour came to my neck of the woods, I took the trickle charger off Moneypenny’s battery and cranked her up. I pulled the plugs and used my remote start switch to crank the engine over and get the oil to all the internals. With that complete I put the plugs in her and made sure the electrical was properly connected and sat on the…[Read more]

newkitman replied to the topic Shower Curtain Tonneau Cover in the forum General Discussion 6 years, 11 months ago
Sir Ed…you may call me “Murphy!” Why? Well the shower curtain I purchased was not quite thick enough and sagged due to the heat. It worked perfectly keeping the water out UNTIL…I took it off and poured a third of the water (that had collected in the part that sagged) onto the floor pan. But I know the curtain works and this time I spent a…[Read more]

Thanks to Ed for sharing the idea of making a temporary tonneau cover from a shower curtain. Although mine is not a British flag or Redneck flag it worked like a charm at keeping the interior nice and dry. Thanks muchly sir Ed. You da man!!

For those members who are assembling/(still assembling) their FiberFab MGTDs I have a helpful tip. The assembly manual says to measure down 1-1/8 inch from the top of the headlight bucket mounting bolt threads and cut it there. I suggest you skip this step and use my procedure as follows. It’ll save you from having to order another headlight…[Read more]

I have a set of MG Magic sun visors and the installation can not be done as written. On the TD there is no channel on the rear side of the frame as there is on the front frame. If anyone has these sun visors could you let me know how they get installed? Thanks a heap.

Check the carb and distributor types. If you have a mechanical distributor and a Solex 34PICT3 well they don’t work well together. A 34PICT3 likes a dual vacuum advance distributor. Just another thing to check. And if you haven’t done it yet, check the setting of the choke. They are adjustable.

Two good suggestions to check.
Ed. No pressure valve that I’m aware of but I’ll check again tomorrow. There may be one internal to the master cylinder. Let you know tomorrow.
Roy. I’ve removed and installed the reservoir cap numerous times. Each time I’ve noticed the vent in the cap but have never checked it. I’ll check it tomorrow.

newkitman replied to the topic MasterCylinder Input Hose Fittings Question in the forum VW Based Kits 7 years, 4 months ago
All my hoses are the correct braided hoses and secured as they should be. I may take my new brake master cylinder and mount it with reservoir in the shed, service the reservoir and let it sit in the shed for a month and see if this one leaks. If it leaks I’ll have to head to a salvage yard and get a master cylinder from a 71 beetle. If it doesn’t…[Read more]

newkitman replied to the topic MasterCylinder Input Hose Fittings Question in the forum VW Based Kits 7 years, 4 months ago
The master cylinder I have is the stock VW dual Master Cylinder. It is leaking from the front fitting rubber seal around the base of the seal. This is the second time I’ve replaced the fittings and seals. I’m thinking of installing threaded input fittings on my other new master cylinder. Getting tired of servicing the break system every 4 months.

The brake master cylinder in my TD is a new MC and it leaks at the two input fittings from the reservoir. I have change these fittings and they still leak around the rubber stopper portion of the fittings. I would like to tap these two bosses so I can screw in brass fittings and connect the hoses. Has any VW guru come across any type of screw-in…[Read more]
