Paul Allain replied to the topic Side View Mirror Visibility in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 5 months ago
I agree with Larry. If you get fender mirrors, get convex. I didn’t and they’re pretty much useless. In fact I don’t even use them. they’re there for looks only. I have a rearview dash mirror and I installed peep mirrors on each side. Again I wish I had gotten a convex peep mirror for the right side. It’s not very useful. The left peep mirror and…[Read more]

Concerning website fees. It appears that October is contract renewal time for this site. Can we still use PayPal to make a donation?

Yes it did. I haven’t gone through everything but it does appear to be all there, up to 10-22-2010. That’s the day I downloaded it. I left it downloading overnight and it wasn’t finished yet. It took 23+ hours to dowload. Checking the download again, I found that the photo gallery did get downloaded afterall. Except there maybe one or two folders…[Read more]

Hi Paul,
I downloaded the whole site up to Oct 22, 2010 using a program I downloaded off the internet. I put everything onto a DVD. When you click on it, it comes up in IE just as it does from the internet. The only thing that seems to be missing is the navigation bar on the left, but the files (Manuals, articles etc) are in the download. The…[Read more] -

Mike,
I checked out the CMC manual. I don’t think mounting a spare on my cover would be feasible. My cover doesn’t have a molded section as yours does. So I guess I’ll just have to rely on a tire repair plug kit and an air compressor. A friend of mine just picked up a Duchess and I’ll have to check out how his spare is mounted. Thanks for the info…[Read more] -

Mike,
I was just looking at your picture and then looked at my car and it looks like I have a lot more clearance between the steering wheel and the back of my seat, also. I measured 15″ from the bottom edge of the steering wheel to the back of the seat. You must sitting right up close to the wheel. BTW that is one good looking MG. I notice you h…[Read more] -

The console is made out of cherry and I made the logo out of the same wood.

I too needed a place for drinks while driving. Also I had built a circuit with a keypad (and needed a place for that) when set would disable the car from being started. So I came up with a similar idea that took care of both. Just adding this for ideas.

I had the same problem when I bought my MG last September. The car had been sitting in a garage for a couple of years. I drove it home from the guy that sold it to me (about 35 miles) with no problems. the next day I had the same problems you did. My mechanic did a tune up and put in a fuel filter (it didn’t have one). It’s been running great…[Read more]

Yes, my arms and fingers were tired. I didn’t do it all at once. A little bit each day and in a couple weeks a final result. Again I used a Turtle Wax product, Chrome and Metal polish on the chrome. Turtle wax works for me. The chrome does have some pitting and rust was beginning to form. I used a small brass brush on it and it cleaned up, then…[Read more]

When I bought my MG last September it was totally oxidized. I used Turtle – Rubbing Compound (heavy duty cleaner) and hours of rubbing. Then I went to Turtle – Rubbing Compound (Medium cut Compound) and more hours of rubbing. Next I used Turtle – Polishing compound. It looked good but still not what I wanted. So, looked online and bought a p…[Read more]

Paul Allain replied to the topic Turn signal replacement in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years ago
I have the same problem. I use the turn signal and forget to reset it. The lights on the dash work but I don’t always notice them. So I got a piezzo buzzer from Radio shack and conneted it across the turn signal relay. It continues to beep till I bring the turn signal back to center. Works for me.

I bought mine from JC Whitney.

Measure the car bumper to bumper and order proper size. I ordered the size that supposedly fit my car but is a bit over sized, but covers the car nicely. My car is garaged but I still cover it in the winter. This one was $65 but t…[Read more] -

Hi Rich,
I live in Gardner. I’ve been itchin’ to take mine out for a ride since I put her into hibernation last fall. But I just can’t get myself to take it on the road with all the melting snow and salt residue left on the road. Hopefully this week with all of the predicted rain, the snow will all melt and the roads will be washed into the s…[Read more] -
