The high flow cats made by Magna-Flow don’t get as hot as the “regular” flow, but a heat shield is a must for ALL cats in my book. Especially with fiberglass floors.
I use these cats on my other vehicles. They are reasonably priced and are of high quality construction using stainless steel.

Great advice from Paul.
All the CMC kits have the split pan under the radiator where our grille badge bars mount. It doesn’t matter if they are VW, Ford or GM donor kits.

Maybe we should post our birthdays on the little info line that’s at the bottom of our posts? Males only of course!
I won’t say how old I am, but unlike Bill Collins, fire had already been discovered…not sure about the wheel though
Keep learning Geoff…from young and old alike. When you stop learning, you might as well get the proverbial dirt blanket. -

Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine (before it’s name was changed to that) used to do an article a month for almost 2 years on “Alternative Engines”. People were sick seeing small block Chevies in every street rod I guess.
They did everything from mid-50’s Hemi’s, aluminum Olds and Buick V8’s (now Rover), to the Buick 3.8L V6. Not only did it tell…[Read more] -

That vendor in Canada wants a huge deposit too. They build only one kit at a time after they get your deposit. I think they wanted $10K down back then. I spoke to them a few years ago before I found the current project in Connecticut.
For Paul Mossberg: Speaking of “deposits”, I wonder if Frank Craig(NJRC) ever saw a dime of the $18,000 he sent…[Read more] -

That’s some good stuff. I think you are correct about about the contact disengaging before the starter fully engages the flywheel ring gear.
Don’t forget to post the fix here too. I am interested in hearing what the heck is causing the problem too!
I used to pull stuff apart like your Dad did. I should start doing that again now, but most of the…[Read more] -

West Marine (or probably any marine supplier) had blades that I used. My Chevette BCW has a VW motor. The arms are not VW on car, but accept the Marine blades.
You just have to cut them down. That’s easily accomplished with the Sears Accu-Cut I bought. Man what a lethal hand tool!!! -

My personal opinion of eBay is not good. I’ve had a couple VERY bad experiences buying vehicles that were NOT what they were advertised to be. Getting satisfaction from the sellers or eBay was non-existent.
If you are looking at the one in KY, that’s adverstised as a Classic Roadsters Ltd kit. They were one of the better made kits. You can a…[Read more] -

Starters that mount to the bell housing can’t really be shimmed. it only moves the starter in or out, not farther away from the flywheel/flexplate ring. This only makes more or less of the starter gear mesh with the ring gear.
GM starters bolt to the engine block. Shimming moves the starter pinion away from the flywheel/flexplate teeth. It only…[Read more] -

Hi Tom…welcome.
Unfortunately, it’s been almost 20 years since the last MG-TD replica’s were manufactured. At their height in the 1980’s there was many different manufacturers of the TD replica. Ford starter with external solenoid?
Sounds like the bendix spring on the starter is shot. The solenoid is nothing but a switch, so it’ll work or not work. Those Ford starters are not that expensive. If you get one locally and the problem still exists, you can bring it back.
I actually use the FoMoCo style external solenoid with my GM starters.…[Read more] -

Thanks Paul. You said what I meant without malice! I went with Grundy years ago because J.C. Taylor would not insure the first Pink MG. I am glad that J.C. Taylor have changed their policy.
The bad thing about classic car insurance agents is that when their “parent” company changes, as happened to me with Grundy, what they will insure may also c…[Read more] - Load More
