Not seeing the rust you are talking about in the picture, I would check to see if any of it is rusted through. If it is, replacing the pans is the best option, but requires a LOT of work.
You could patch or fiberglass the existing pan after thoroughly cleaning up as much rust as possible with a wire brush/scraper to get the scales.
Then invest in…[Read more] -

Monster Miata, Cobra or Sebring (Healy 3000) is the way to go. They make a great kit.
I started on a build with a CMC Ford based kit. It was to be Buick V6 (3.8L) powered with a TH200R4 automatic and an 8″ Ford 3.55 posi rear.
I had also upgraded to GM “G” body (Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Malibu, Cutlass, Regal) metric disc brakes on all four…[Read more] -

Should I have bid???
I sent the guy a PM.
The auction ended yesterday w/no bids. It looks like the chrome, including the grille and shell, are rusting too. Plus he said it had an aluminum coated Bugpack exhaust which Bill removed to install another set up. He also started by saying it was a “Speedster kit”.
That car was a great riding, h…[Read more] -

Dan R is correct. None of these front engine/RWD TD Replica’s are on an OEM manufacturer’s frame. Both the Pinto/Mustang II and Chevette/Pontiac T-1000 were Uni-body cars and had no frames.
The frames for these replica’s were all provided by the kit manufacturers, Classic Motor Carriage/FiberFab, Classic Roadsters Ltd, British Coach Works, etc.…[Read more] -

Wolfsburg West is the best supplier for “thick” VW floor pan halves. Check out http://www.thesamba.com for anything air-cooled VW related.
Depending on what state you are in, being titled as the “donor” car will not fly. Where are you located?

Welcome to the forum.
Allen is correct…changing floor pans would not change the VIN.
Just wondering…is your car titled as the VW donor car?Pink MG40575.4324074074 -

Could be the German V6 that wsas used in the Mercury Capri.
If my memory serves me, their heads and intake were slightly different than the 2.8L V6 that was available in the Pinto/Bobcat, Mustang II and early Ranger/Bronco II variants.
Try contacting Racer Walsh in Florida or Esslinger’s in California. An engine serial number or block casting nu…[Read more] -

Ray, I sold an unfinished Ford based CMC MG-TD replica “roller” to a guy in Sacramento about 8 or 9 years ago. He had it shipped from my home in NJ.
He retired and started working on it. Soon afterwards, he had a heart attack. I lost touch with him about a year after he bought it. I never found out if he ever finished it.
Welcome to the forum. Do…[Read more] -

I was lucky I got those US Wheels when I did. It’s harder to find RWD 4x100m steel wheels now than hen’s teeth! Nobody makes them anymore. You can sure find a “zillion” FWD 4x100mm wheels though.
I bought that old single axle open trailer (wooden ramps) from a fellow NJRC member. It was sitting in his business’ parking lot for several years. He…[Read more] -

Hey Larry,
I know that BCW used a 13″ flat chrome dish 4x100mm with the wire basket inserts on most of the Chevette based cars. I still have a set (minus the baskets) from your car. Nice bases for a sign post!
I have seen a few, like the one recently on Craig’s List in South Jersey, that had slotted VW “looking” wheels. I am not sure if they we…[Read more] -

Those wheels on the rear in the picture appear to be Mexican Beetle rims. The fronts are not not the same wheels.
You can use the stock slotted VW wheels and get flat hub caps that fit them. Check out Paul Mossberg’s. -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic VW RIM Question in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 6 months ago
For reference: 4 lug VW rims are 4x130mm bolt pattern and use a 14mm lug bolt. The 5 lug are 5x205mm and use a 12mm lug bolt.
I recently had some 4 lug VW “Marathon” wheels (a.k.a. Baja Bug) widened to 8.5″ (stock backspace) and had them powder coated bright red. They are going on the rear of a Volksrod I am building.
When I needed center caps, I…[Read more] -

PM me for data on Lance Motors.
There are plenty of TD replicas available if you look. Again IMHO, if you can find a British Coach Works (BCW) or Classic Roadsters Ltd. (Duchess) they are the top of the line replicas.
The BCW is came VW and Chevette based. The Duchess came VW based for sure, but Paul would know better if they came in a front e…[Read more] - Load More
