Rick,I agree $2,200 is not bad if you want to buy a body and a rebuilt engine. (Although I would want to know rebuilt by who?!)But that is not your goal. You seem intent on completing a nice MG TD reproduction.Given that nice, running TD replicas can be had for $5,000 and often less, I think $2,200 is high and you should offer less.I agree, it is…[Read more]

I agree with Ringo.Besides, you might as well start with the easy stuff first. Adjust the valves. Then check/set the timing. While you are under the hood (boot?), give the intake manifolds a shake just to make sure they are tight.Start ‘er up and give a listen. If you still hear noises you don’t like, start the fuel delivery & intake system checks…[Read more]

Here’s a reply from my favorite VW tech.
Fuel mixture could be too lean; check for loose intake manifolds, linkage binding problems, bad intake gasket.PMOSSBERG40287.6821296296 -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Ultimate MGTD Replica ?? in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 6 months ago
Wow. That is beautiful.I’ve been around this hobby since the early 1980s and do not recall this car.Gene’s comments are right on target. Black was not original. The headlight mounts should be painted body color (so should the headlight buckets! except for ’50 and ’51 TDs). Yes, painted door hinges are correct. This is the best TD history site…[Read more]

Ah, so you’re telling us you’ll modify dished steering wheels for us! Nice of you to offer! Thanks Larry!
I have a flat steering wheel on my Duchess. I asked because there was a lot of discussion here a couple months ago about here to find zero dish steering wheels.
Would you post a picture of the center hub with the horn button removed?
Must…[Read more] -

Hello montrealer,
I’m sure it will vary. It is also possible they used reproduction VW pans, which would mean they do not carry a VW production year.
Under your seat you will find an access panel over the front of the transaxle. VW stamped the production VIN into the top of the center tunnel, next to that access panel.
Find that number and look up…[Read more] -

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic FiberFab Migi – Front Body Mounting in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 6 months ago
Hey Chuck,I moved your body question to a new thread. Hopefully this will get some attention from the FiberFab Migi owners in the forum.Beyond that, I’m not going to be too much help. The Classic Roadsters Duchess body goes together much differently. Sorry!

Hi Steve,On my VW based Duchess, the fuse block is behind the dash, driver’s side, attached to the “firewall”.The flasher unit is just a few inches from the fuse block.”I can only get the green turn indicators to light if I turn on the fog
or park lights and then turn on the turn signal.” – So, the indicators flash, but the turn signal themselves…[Read more] -

Yes Ed, it’s fun.Easiest way to wire the third brake light (anyone remember when NHTSA called them the “CHMSL”?) is to just tap into hot line of one brake light and then run a separate ground off the third brake light.Having no brake lights makes me think you simply blew a fuse.Gold Star to the first one that properly fills in the words to CHMSL

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Car Cover in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 6 months ago
An MG-TD cover will not fit. Most replicas are a bit larger than the original TD.
You can either go with a generic as ringo sugggests or buy from someone that custom cuts.
I believe
http://www.coverking.com/ and http://www.carcoverusa.com/
will create custom-cut covers.
