I checked the info in a couple of the closed threads. The companies I listed several years ago are all still in business and the leaders in classic car insurance. They are listed below, with updated phone numbers and web sites as necessary.
I have two cars insured with American Collectors: http://www.americancollectorsins.com/

Wolfpow,To be 100% certain,The VIN for the original VW Type 1 is stamped into the chassis tunnel just behind the access panel for the shift rod connection to the front of the transaxle.Find the VIN and then check it out here:http://www.lightner.net/ybdb/serno.htmlor herehttp://www.dubnetworks.net/vw-vin-decoder.htm

So far it’s just Schu and me running our MGs to Carlisle. And I’m having major brake problems that I may not have time to sort out between now and Carlisle. I’ve got a daughter playing club volleyball and soccer, so our weekends are pretty full!If you do come out, our MGs will most likely be parked on the show field with the Speedsters & Spyders.…[Read more]

Yeah. It’s me, the good lookin’ bald guy behind the wheel.
Funny, it’s not even my car.
The car was built by Cory (I forget his last name but will find out). Cory is very active
with the Speedster Owners On-line group. Underneath it’s got a custom
built frame, probably weighs in at about 1200 pounds. Monster HP from a VW engine (I’ll get…[Read more] -

Great news James. And we didn’t even have to hear it. And maybe I’m smarter than I think I am!

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Jingle sound mystery in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 6 months ago
Hey James,
I’m no expert, but is the sound really constant, i.e. no change in volume, pitch or frequency? If it is, it would seem to me that it is not related to anything rotational in the drive train.
Deceleration or coasting (which is also decelerating, unless you are coasting downhill) would mean that the drive shaft, rear end, axles, w…[Read more] -

Yes. While you are stripped down to the floorpan, clean it, derust it, paint it etc. Then swap the front end for an adjustable beam and soften the beam be removing torsion bars. PinkMG (aka Mark) has posted the details for this here: https://tdreplica.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15&KW =vw+beamAnd add the disc brakes, as you mentioned!

Oh yeah…and I changed the topic from “help” to “Engine Code and Generator Questions”Why?Well…all our posts become a permanent part of the tdreplica history, unless deleted by one of the admins. So they are searchable and readable “forever”It wouldn’t be much help if we had 10,000 postings, all with the topic of “help”.We suggest that topics be…[Read more]

Hi Steve & PeggyYour engine (AD38058D) was built up on a replacement block (i.e. one that was not supplied with a new car. If built up stock, it is a 1600cc motor, probably cast in the late 60s early 70s.Scroll down on this site and you will find the AD prefix code.http://www.type2.com/bartnik/enginecodes.htm

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic shocks in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 7 months ago
Ron,Suspension stiffness comes primarily from spring rates (or torsion bars in a VW), not the shocks.Mark (pinkmg) has posted excellent advice on how to soften the front suspension on a VW based TD. Search for “vw beams” and open MGTD Kit car suspension or Suspension/Pink MG. Mark also commented on springs for front engine cars (Chevette or Pin…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Need Grill Shell (repair/replace) in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 7 months ago
If anyone is thinking about bidding on the ebay grill posted above…be aware the “nice repair” involved cutting off about an inch from the bottom. This WILL be noticeable when the grill is on a car.
The hole for the starter crank should be a complete circle and end before the true bottom of the grill. Look at Gene’s grill, then look again at t…[Read more] -

Rich,I didn’t take the seatless car on the road. But even around the complex where I was living at the time, it was a challenge. With no back rest, even mild acceleration pushed me back off the milk crate. Funny then!

Ringo…I love your story! Even better than my own first drive snow story.Along the way, in over 25 years with my kit TD, I’ve driven it in probably worse weather than my daily drivers. That’s what happens when you are driving home from somewhere, in this case Indianapolis, and run into the absolute worst rain storm I’ve ever driven in. You’ve no…[Read more]
