Greg
I know you replaced the old gas cap, isthe new one vented or not, also could the new cap be plugged?
Or bad . I would check to see if it will start after taking the gas cap off. But you Probable tried this ? -

Greg,
The fuel line enters the engine compartment along the left side of the engine forward breast plate and then runs along side the left cylinder tin on the way to the fuel pump. When I build my engines I always use the metal tube with a short braided hose on each end. To be certain the fuel tube doesn’t get too hot and cause a vapor lock, on… -

Segue: Larry, just found out that my granddaughter (who is on the Va Tech Lacrosse team) will be playing High Point in Feb. That’s in your back yard isn’t it?
Guys, just because I’m gonna try Larry’s fabric spray bomb idea, don’t stop with the other ideas. Many moons ago someone said to me: “You might be smarter than anybody in the room, bu… -

Larry, that sounds like a great “what’s to lose” fix. If it does work, it should be easy and cheap. If it doesn’t, then I can try another more “elegant” solution. I’ll go up to O’Reilly’s tomorrow.

Roy,The inside of my top was faded and mildewed . I used black spray bomb fabric spray .It looks good and it’s been three years since I did it. Could you peel off all the layer of fabric that’s seperating from the rest of the top material and then spray the inside ? I think I got the stuff at Oreilly Auto for under $10.

I really doubt that I could “glue” a canvas to the underside and make it look decent since it has virtually no “give”.
I went and looked at headliner material a couple of hours ago. It is about 1/8″ thick 2 ply stuff with a fabric on one side and about 1/16″ foam. It stretches somewhat but only in one direction. I might be able to make tha… -

Greg,Allen was referring to the gaskets between the fuel pump and the insulator/push-rod guide and between the insulator/push-rod guide and the block. If you have more than one gasket on each side, removing one should increase fuel pressure because you are allowing the push-rod to move slightly higher with respect to the pump.

Roy I never thought of that, but it may be a good fix ,some good 3M spray and canvas may work

Allen/Greg, it could be vapor lock but I can’t think of where the fuel line runs so close to the head or the exhaust that the line would get that hot.

newkitman replied to the topic fuel problem in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 7 months ago
Are you getting air into your fuel system some way? Just wondering because you say that your fuel filter gets only half full. While you’re at the pump, check the pressure…it should be 3 psi max. If lower than two remove one paper gasket and see if that helps up the pressure. If pressure is okay then it sounds as if you’re getting close to a vapor lock.

Greg, did you in fact empty out and clean out the fuel tank? The next time that it stops, see if you still have spark to rule out the coil. If you do, it’s not the coil.

If you only need the “blade”–i.e. the outer bumper I’ve seen them on the ‘bay for about $100. These would be repro originals though and may be not quite what a replica needs…

I work from home on Fridays so I stepped into the garage over lunch to take a slower, closer look at things. And sure enough, (DOH!) I had a hot wire running to the coil fuse. Stupid mistake but got it fixed.Started and shut if off several times and everything is working fine. Thanks for the sanity check.
