Chip. yes your Vin number should be under the seat riveted to the tunnel. I have a custom chassis also . Take all the info that came with your LR to i.e. car manaul etc . The DMV officer here in NC wanted all the info . It may make the registration process easier.
congrats !

Chip, Congratulations on a GREAT car. Your LR is built on a custom chassis so the vin may not be on top of the tunnel under the seat ,which is the location for the ones using the VW pan. Check the driver side door jams . It may be an ”assigned vin” from the state in which it was previously registered. It could also be under the carpet maybe on…[Read more]

Check the cutoff switch on the carb. Is it possible you have a constant voltage to that rather than the coil? Both are black wires. If the cutoff switch has constant voltage that valve will always be open. VW added that switch to asure the fuel to the engine cut off.

My “new” front bumper is 52″ while the rear is 55″. Both are supposedly TD bumpers. Which is “correct”? I think that the 52″ looks better also.

Yes, sounds like you have a constant hot wire going to the coil as opposed to a keyed hot wire.

That is an MGTC, the earlier model to the TD. I have that model, but never bothered to put it together. Maybe I should eBay that one, too.

The last bumper I purchased was from Moss. Strangly enough it was several inches shorter than the one provided from Fiberfab. It actually looked better.

I’ve searched for my vin no. and i cant locate it. It should be on your title.I’m assuming you need it to register it at the dmv TODAY THE BIG DAY.

Look on the top of the tunnel under the seat. Right on top, may be under some carpeting.

Hey Neil, In addition to your list, I also use:Good luck on your search. The last time I bought a bumper, I asked if they had any seconds. Got one at a substantial discount. Never did find the imperfection. -

Someone asked about a model TD at one point. Here’s a 1:16 scale unbuilt plastic model TD for sale on eBay if anyone is interested. I have one like this in a case I finished over the winter and paid moe for it.

Could be a short in your ignition switch, eh? Or something simpler still–a wire got crossed? Couple coming up that are similar color and/or thickness?Should not be too hard to find with the trusty test light.

I agree with Ed. It sure sounds like a deal. Never owned one, but have spent a lot of time around them. YA’s are neat in a MG sort of way and the XPAG (which was also used on the TF) engine can be found. Parts are readily available through Moss and others. But, even though a YA ain’t no Bentley, if I had one, my MiGi would likely have to take…[Read more]

Jump on that! YAs are sought after & the correct engine for it is an xpag–same as a TD or TC

And it is likely not a TC.
This is a ’48 MG sedan, the YA Saloon:

Ooops!
Didn’t mean in any way that our TDs aren’t real. Probably should have said “original”. Going to call the owner today and ask. Just curious. But I think you’re right…an original TC with a big ford motor dropped in. If an original 48 TC his asking price is quite low. I saw a disassembled 52 last year at a swap meet and they were asking $25K. -

Allen,
First I HAVE to bust your chops on your subject line.Real or Kit Car? Really? Kit Cars ARE real man!
Now to your question, I am not aware of any MG TC reproductions.I’d bet the car is original with a Ford motor dropped in.Either that or the owner doesn’t know what it is, is guessing, and the car is a Ford based TD replica. -
