By the way, for reference sake, in the picture below the three guys on the right are my sons. In front is the welder (youngest), in the middle (the middle son) is the “theme carpenter”, and in the back (oldest) is the computer geek and reading maniac. The guy on the left is one of their friends. You’ll see more of them in the coming months so I w…[Read more]

Paul,Awesome information and links! This will all be very helpful. Who knows, maybe I’ll start my own web page for this journey.I did some research before I started all this fun and was able to purchase floor pans with the “bulkhead” included. So I think I’m good there.I’ve also found a replacement frame head (front bulkhead) that includes n…[Read more]

you all interested me on this one…
So two brown bottles and and old filter, I mean why throw them away, I might not be able to find one someday and need it. A lighter and 5 minutes to spare. I held a bic lighter to the plastic and waited for it to cook. Remember this is an old filter. First thing to happen was I encountered a slight jet like…[Read more] -

I re-did mine earlier this year, I was going to do the same a schu, but with my custom bases and the storage under I opted for new foam. I went to a local shop and got some 5″ very dense foam. Took care of the TB syndrom. Before about an hr drive was all these old tired buns could handle, now pretty much no TBS.
Now if I could just get a litt…[Read more]

If you want to try to cover the EMPI area before putting the emblem on, I used a sheet of black plastic and cut a disc the size of the area. It kinda broke up the chrome too. I like your MG emblem better than mine.
I was missing 2 of the caps on my basket wires and at the time couldn’t fine replacements. Made my own with the black pla…[Read more] -

Just my 2 cents. After I saw what schu did I decided to give it a try. It worked out great. Try it, you wont regret it. If it doesn’t work out for you, you can still add new foam. You shouldn’t have to cut out new seats.

I had a couple GM HEI units fail me way back in the ’80s. Never figured it; I was also broke then so I went back to a points system for about 15 years and ended up finally getting one of those aftermarket Crane modules, which worked well.Looking back I wonder if maybe my regulator was hinky, or maybe the coil? Something is zapping it, probably.…[Read more]

epoxy finish is supposed to be more chip resistant.

I’d be very into that. Been thinking about an epic Bridget road trip for a while. But not sure how to convince Karen of its utility and enjoyability. Will work on her.

I had my plastic one between the fuel pump and the carb and it was no trouble, but after reading a lot of scare stories I replaced the rubber lines and moved the filter to the front of the engine (“back” of the fan shroud when you’re looking at it from the back of the car) to get it away from sparks and stuff. Seems to work fine either way. Also,…[Read more]

And my final comment….
For a kit car based on a production donor chassis, most states use the VIN from the donor chassis when they title the reconstructed vehicle.
VW VIN’s are stamped into thecenter tunnel, near the access panel for theshift rod to transmission connector.
If you can salvage your chassis and keep the tunnel, you are likely in a…[Read more] -

OK, I’m almost done.
The full floor pan halves definitely include what we are referring to as the “rear bulkheads”

If the tunnel is solid, you can replace both front and rear “bulkheads.
