Thank you for your answers. The car is complete and in very good shape. I did have concerns about the transmission. How costly and diffucult would it be to change both the motor and trans.

Jimbo, Welcome to the forum. Rich’s answer concerning prices is right on target, Some cars may be over priced but I have not seen too many of good quality at the lower end of the scale. Some of our members have recently got some nice cars in the $2000 range but these are exceptions, not an everyday event. Personally, I would be hesitant to buy a c…[Read more]

Jimbo,
The VW experts will pipe in on the drive train stuff, I’m sure. We get asked about price all the time. Depends on the Kit manufacturer for one thing. I think the British Coach Works and the Classic Roadsters Dutchess tend to get a little more $ because of rarity and kit quality.
Basically depending on condition, we’re seeing prices from…[Read more] -

All,
Yeah, the guy did respond to my question, but just said that the I.D. plate says Replicar Corp. Still have no clue as to who they were.
It actually reminds me a lot of my car, in that it’s RED, it has an MG emblem and …. Ok, that’s about it.
James, c’mon buddy, take one for the team! We need an EYEWitness report on this rare…[Read more] -

Here’s a couple of wire wheel suppliers
http://www.daytonwirewheel.com
http://www.zenithwirewheels.net
Both offer tru knock-off wheels. A splined hub that bolts to your bolt pattern and the wheel slips over the spline and a knock 0ff holds them on. Call your banker first, cause they ain’t cheap. They are however, drop-dead gorgeous. -

I’ll get it, but gotta pass around the hat
.
Then my wife will pass the frying pan
That car sure is a beauty. Dan is right about those wipers. I assume the folding windshield joint is above the wipers resting position. -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic Replicar Corp MGTD in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
There is a response by the seller that I think must be to Rich’s question stating that the plate on the car does indeed say Replicacar Corp.Looks like we have got a rare one here. Perhaps we can talk James into taking the 150 mile trip up to Sikeston,MO. to check it out or better still buy it .How bout it James?

I too had noticed the two piece hood which looks like it is bolted together and hinged on the left side. I also see that the headlight brackets have no visible bolts where they attach to the grille. If it were not for the round taillights which have matching round molds on the rear fenders, I would think that this is a BCW with a bolted together…[Read more]

Update:
I have the engine back together and didn’t have any left over parts.
I cleaned everything up inside the engine, removed some corner sludge deposits before putting the pan back on. Stripped all the paint off the metal pieces (exterior), primed and repainted with factory paint. Everything went back together perfectly. It is so much easier…[Read more] -

I was looking at the ebay sellers ratings and noticed he has been purchasing automobile parts including authentic MG items, the spinners were a recent purchase he made. His score is perfect on the feedback. He may be purchasing cars, fixing them up for resale. He has done a great job with this one. I noticed the hood is two parts, it shows in the…[Read more]

All,
Curiosity got the best of me, so I just sent the Seller a question re: Replicar Corp. I can find NO reference to them on the internet. Maybe they only made one car?

James, Thanks for the better pictures. I think this same car was on Ebay last month in wisconson. The interior and other features make me think so anyway. Looks like somone did some improvements, grille slats, wheel spinners, etc and has bumped up the price as well. The previous ad did not mention a brand and showed fewer views and I thought it was…[Read more]

Thanks for the positive comment.I though long and hard about this modification.I had considered painting the area a matte black, but I felt it would still stand out.I guess being on lay-off and bored to death helped to make the choice. Also this body has sat for so long that there was a bow in that area that I could not get to lay flat.I also…[Read more]

Scott,
That’s going to look so much more authentic when the car is done. I painted those “wings” matte black, so they sort of disappear. But that’s a far cry from your solution. Nicely done! -

Thanks. You are correct. I didn’t know they switched to round lights in ’53. - Load More
