The car looks great Ed! You know I really like the combination of wheels (wide in the rear). You did a fine job. Can Dale and I come see it in person?

Been sorting the Spyder for a few months now. It’s running strong and tracking straight, stopping short and sounding delightfully loud. On Tuesday I revved the engine to 6000 rpm on a highway entrance ramp, and it seemed to like that. The dyno slips with these engines (I have one for a sister build, not this engine per-se) indicate they made peak…[Read more]

Given the way they’re made—with the divot for the grub screw on the edge of the large leaves only—the small ones should slide out. But they probably won’t until you loosen the center grub screw. I just rebuilt the beam on my Spyder and it was a real adventure sorting out how the height adjusters worked on this one: the grub screw was buried ins…[Read more]

I do think so the center grub holds the leaves to provide torsion .

If I want to remove only the smaller torsion leaves on my VW ball joint suspension, do I need to remove the center grub screw? Im hoping not, as it is quite inaccessable. Or do the grubs only hold the large leaves. Its been 40 years since I have been inside a VW front beam and I just cant remember.

Yeah it sounds beyond complicated and expensive I ended up buying a 30$ universal column lever with a flasher relay now I have to figure out what all I can get rid of co I have like 3 flasher relays lol
also. Someone was nice enough to use a column from a 73 bug so it has the wipers on there also and that assembly is what holds the shaft…[Read more]

Sounds overly complicated and expensive but mayge Im missing something. When I rewired mine (vw chassis), I ran a hot in and out of a 5 dollar button flasher unit then fed that to the hot side of the turn signal switch. Then fed left and right circuits accordingly. 90 bucks for a flasher relay? Yow! And did you know that Lucas invented the i…[Read more]

Well, things didn’t go too well. Got the tires inflated, oil changed, new battery, but the ignition had no spring-back and some wires taped to the steering column shorted and began to smoke. Re-firing aborted.

edward ericson replied to the topic My London Roadster in the forum Rules and Etiquette 4 years, 7 months ago
If it hasn’t been run in a while, maybe pull the coil wire and turn the engine over with the starter for 10-20 seconds to get the oil flowing first before trying to fire it.

I will take a picture to document the starting point and go from there.

Today is the day! I am about to begin the restoration of my London Roadster. I am going to change the oil, lube the cylinders, install a battery and see if it turns over. Any tips?

Happy to find this club, and happy to relate to my fellow MGr owners that I’m more delighted than ever with my car. I bought the kit in 1985 from a California company named Corsair (went out of business several years ago.) My brother and I used a 69 VW donor car to put it together, taking about 3 weeks. I replaced the motor a couple years l…[Read more]

I’m in Florida, so shipping may add to price – or come pick them up. I can send individual pictures. Fairly good shape, except one chrome rim has some pitting. $100 seems appropriate.

I completely overlooked the FiberFab emblem. Good eye!

I agree, looks like a Fiberfab. The logo on the front gives it away. Also I agree that the headlight brackets are non standard. That said, most parts are easily available via MG Magic. However, as these were mostly self assembled you never know what the original owner did (or didn’t) do.

Bill Collins (the member who had the grill badges made) passed away several years ago. We have no contact with any family members, hence no idea if the remaining badges still exist somewhere.
They are 4.5 inches across, have the usual two screws on the reverse. This is what they look like.
