Al Greig replied to the topic Loose door hinge screw in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 5 months ago
When I put my MiGi together, I didn’t use nuts but rather a small piece of steel channel which I tapped to fit the hinge screws, there are 2 screws per hinge. Once the screws are started, it is not necessary to access channel to tighten screws. Set channel in some silicone to hold in place but also allow future removal if required.

I drove my TD back and forth to work from Easter to Thanksgiving for 15 years, trip was about 15 miles each way. At the time I was commuting to a western suburb and had a relative safe place to park at work. Also made a couple of round trips New Jersey and back. Had to give up using as a commuter car when changed jobs an had to go to downt…[Read more]

Got mine on Amazon, paid $16 for a book that cost $.45 when published. But well worth it.

Al Greig replied to the topic mechanical fuel pump to electrical in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 1 month ago
I converted mine to electric about 20 years ago. Was on the road and the fuel pump went out, a “universal” electric replacement was the only thing the local auto parts store which I could walk to had in stock that would fit. It was on a weekend and could not have gotten a OEM mechanical replacement until Monday. Have removed mechanical pump a…[Read more]

Al Greig replied to the topic Another Gas Tank Question in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 1 month ago
On my MiGi, I route the vent tube around the filler neck for 1 turn then up on the backside of the tank so the vent tube is above the point that it is tapped into the the filler neck, then down. Found this prevent gas sloshing out the vent tube.

I would not expect grounding out the positive terminal of the battery at the battery would blow any fuses. At that point, fuses are no longer in the circuit. What I would look for is a connection in the negative circuit has opened up.

Al Greig replied to the topic 1972 VW Muffler Replacement in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 3 months ago
One thing I recommend is to get rid of the slip joint on the muffler and weld on some flanges so you can make a bolted connection. Procedure described here: http://www.aircooledtech.com/exhaust_flange/ I have a header system, so the flanges are welded to the header, but procedure will work just as well with a muffler.Al Greig:-)

I built an aluminum frame between and attached to the steel members that support the bumper, this frame also goes up the sides at the front (towards front of car, don’t know if that is front of engine) of engine and a piece goes across the front of the engine. There is a removable aluminum frame at rear of engine so engine can be removed. The r…[Read more]
