Happened to me too, on the way to work, a little bit after I got the car. Fuel filter fixed it. . . .Until the coil went last September and something that felt like what you’re experiencing happened to me. Re-started, then quit for good a couple miles later. New coil fixed it. . . . Until a wire worked loose and it happened again the next…[Read more]

That there’s a real twin A-arm automotive suspension, bunkie! Nice. Mendaleoa (spelled wrong) gets quite a bit of scratch to put something that looks a lot like that in VW-based tube-framed cars.

Greg: Running list of attendees is on this thread. There’s a fair amount of stuff to do in and around the fair grounds, but it’s mainly auto/show related stuff. Carlisle seems to have staked its economy on these weekly car shows, which run all spring and summer. In and around Carlisle there are also numerous antiques shops (Adamstown Antique…[Read more]

Happy New Year, Mel. Can’t match that Florida sunshine here in Baltimore, but I did manage to get Bridget out and about today. If anything, 52 degrees and part-cloudy is even better than 80s and hard sun. Bundle up a tad, don some gloves and enjoy all the astonishment.

edward ericson replied to the topic Adding heat in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
Yep. Only thing is, then I gotta solve the problem of the bolt it’s on loosening up just a bit with every use, leading to the same trouble I have now. I’ll probably just glue it in with some permatex….P.S., just got back from running Bridget up to town. 52 degrees today; I was plenty warm enough. Saw an old Beetle, a 64 Impala, some kind of hot…[Read more]

Could be one of the pressure relief valves, but I think those are usually underneath. Probably just a plug. This guy seems to think it’s a good spot to put a temp sensor.22 pounds pressure at 3k rpm sounds a bit low to me. I believe the rule of thumb is about 10 pounds per thousand RPM. That said, I’d check the gauge reading somehow before…[Read more]

Eberspacher. They’re expensive, tricky to set up, and utterly unnecessary in a TD Replica. A couple of the Speedster guys swear by these things, but those guys spend $30k just to buy their cars & they’re into bragging rights. Lots of them also have big bore/stroker engines with completely aftermarket, race-type exhausts on them, which…[Read more]

The old Harley antipathy to rice rockets may be dying off, but very slowly. I think some of the vitriol came about with the Suzuki Shadow and Kawi Vulcan–bikes designed to look enough like a Hog that guys would be fooled from across the street. And they were despised by those guys mainly, I think, because they’re better bikes. Many were the…[Read more]

One of our guys has a set. I seen a 14-inch set on a cool old squareback too–supposedly off a Porsche.Dayton Wires says they’ll make ’em if we want. Just takes money.Pretty sure I’m keeping the old steelies for a few years more, at least.

Correct me if I’m wrong, MGLondon, but I think I pulled one just like it from a late ’90s Nissan Altima last year. It’s 15 by 6 inches with a 4 x 114.3mm bolt pattern. AKA 4 x 4.5 inches, which is the same, I believe, as the MGA and MGB. (Also the Corvair, four-bolt Chevy Nova, early Mustang, etc. etc.)See Nissan fitment guide here. See universal…[Read more]

MGs of Baltimore club guys are cordial (they did use a photo I sent from the Rocks show in their November newsletter–pdf here), but they’re not overly friendly so far. I’ve not parked near enough to “real” MG guys at a show to test them like you did, but I suspect a few might be a little snooty. Understandable, since some of them have a lot of…[Read more]
