Mricio, isn’t this fun?Blinkers and indicators are working . . . now. But:I’ve got a high beam indicator that works until you put the headlights on, then it indicates highs when the lows are on. And when the indicator is on, the instrument lights go off! Ratsa-fratsa GROUNDS!Also found a wire that had burned/melted to the next one. Probably circa…[Read more]

The adaptors will add 3/4 inch to your track, more or less, each side. And what is the offset on the wires? Might add more width still. Instead of adaptors, you might consider having your hubs drilled to the desired bolt pattern. The Speedster guys have this done all the time & say it’s $100. I don’t know if that’s for one or for four, but…[Read more]

dbrock, you might want to post your car’s pictures at Forgotten Fiberglass, or at least let that guy know about it.http://www.forgottenfiberglass.com/You might not rate (might not be old enough) but who knows?

Brilliant. If you built it already you should have a lot of fun with the resto. Some of us can blame the PO (previous owner) for all our troubles, which in my case is really funny, given the general quality of my own attempts at repair.

Re wiper motors: Check this out:This one is the right shape. $70. 110-degree sweep. Paint it crinkle black and you’re 99 percent home. This one is like half that. There’s a black crinkle finish one somewhere too. waterproof, brass and stainless, 110 degree sweep. $70-80. Not a “genuine Lucas” Chinese reproduction (they’re actually under $300 at…[Read more]

Love to see the photos of this. I took all the small leaves out of my front beam–six upper and six lower. Still not sure if I will have to put some back. I set the front end at the height it was before the new beam, which turns out to be a couple inches lower than stock, and I can still adjust it up or down, so the spring rate is probably pretty…[Read more]

What th..! That blue . . . engine?Looks like a garage full of MGs, this one with a proper absurdly-foldable MG style bonnet. But for the life of me I can’t make out what that is supposed to be under it.I see the Pinto shifter. Is the engine maybe a V-6?

Leave them alone for now. Tape them up. Fix all the grounds first. THEN see if there’s something that still doesn’t work.Trying to find a “use” or purpose for all the loose wires on a zillion-year-old car that someone else adapted wiring to is a fool’s errand.

Lafers are unique beasts. Not so much an MG TD “replica” as a TD-inspired, and slightly classier, neo-classic. The spare tire cover, the glass side windows, the tail lights–all unique to the marque. There’s a Lafer owner in North Carolina on the Speedster forum (also owns a Speedster). His name is Aaron White. He’s emailable at…[Read more]

You’ll get used to it. The “closeness” in these cars is very different from what we’re used to, but a lot of it is function of the car’s dimensions. The windshield is almost upright, for instance. Your other car’s windshield is on at least a 35 degree slope. So the dashboard on your modern car is about two feet deep. Whereas the TD’s dash is about…[Read more]

Tach works. So does the oil pressure gauge (though I seem to have misplaced the light that goes in it). The fuel gauge is a no-go. The sender reads 63 ohms as it sits, with about 7/8 of a tank. Should be closer to 10, 15 ohms there, and like 80 ohms empty. When I hooked the gauge up it went to 3/4 full and then clicked and went to empty. I…[Read more]

More progress on the kick panels. One, in fact, is done. The door panels are going to be the hard part. Here’s the edge panel test fit.
I drilled new holes through them and widened them on the panels for panel clips. Gonna go for the mod “hidden clip” look. Wish me luck. Here’s the done panel before the holes:
Scored some “hidem” strip with my last…[Read more] -

Nice shots Allen. The red ‘vert with the white wall tires is a sweet one. I liked the Benning auto Parts rod too. That your red TD?
