Got mine on Craigslist but if I was real dedicated to getting a deal I’d be haunting–hate to say it–estate sales. Also grab up as many of those penny shopper and you-pay-to-look classified ad papers I could find. “Bargain News” it’s called up in CT. I’d be searching for an older demographic that, maybe, isn’t so Craigslist and ebay-savvy.…[Read more]

If I really wanted a project I’d hold out for a BCW Chevette and ditch
the drive train, then adapt a stouter engine to that–2.8 to 3.1
60-degree V6 maybe?–with maybe a TH200R4 behind it. Chevy s-10 pickup truck drivetrain. Project with a
capital “P” though, and that stands for “pool” which somehow rhymes with
“trouble.”If I just wanted an…[Read more] -

Way yo go Dick! Sounds like the shifter bushing is a detail that the Chevette and VW cars share. As for the smog stuff, it is my considered opinion that the Air Injection Reaction Pump was a scam. The suckers weigh about 25 pounds, rob HP, and they were supposed to supply catalyst air to the very hot post-exhaust-valve flow with the idea that–I…[Read more]

Screw it, man. This dude (ZZ4 in a TD with ‘Vette & Jaguar suspension) must be challenged! You are the man to do it.
After yer all done gawking at this engineering marvel, check out his hubcap attachment system. One of my theories is vindicated. Cause of that, I’mma post this on that hubcap/wheel thread too. -

You ever post that picture, Russ?

More progress made.half-hacksaw helped get the tubes cut:

Got the lever in place and socked in four sheet metal screws to hold it while I cut the cable and test-pinched them into the new cable ends.
Got that all together and started on a new bracket to hold the heater lever.
So far, so good. Looks-wise, anyways. -

Mine might be just vinyl, folded over, two screws on each side.

edward ericson replied to the topic Luggage racks in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 15 years, 1 month ago
Someone had a crackin’ rack made from one of those “tire steps” they sell in JC Whitney and elsewhere: you know, the kind that hang over the top of a tire so you can–I guess–step up and grab stuff off the roof of your SUV? They’re like $15-$50.Hang that on your spare then pile your baggage on the step. Strap it down with a few bungies & hit the…[Read more]

That ad’s been running off and on for at least a year, always with the same picture. Dunno why he doesn’t just inventory the stuff & move it a few pieces at a time on ebay.

I was recently thinking a cool Simpson/Miata mill would be the aluminum Buick/Rover 215, appropriately bored and stroked, of course. Very light and nominally British. Outfit it with some old strombergs maybe . . . But, as everyone knows, I have way more theories than either money or skill. Ever thus.

edward ericson replied to the topic What kit would work in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 1 month ago
How about a Miata Italia II or Manta from Simpson Design?Way cheaper than a Factory 5 Cobra & doesn’t look like everyone else’s Cobra. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that).I seen these Simpson kits offered used for well south of $10k–Miata included. Go get your Mustang-to-Miata kit & get to work.

Good deal Ed – ready for some hard driving on the twisties.
Took mine out for a ride on Sunday w/ Paul Rich ( speedster guy ) and Greg ( another speedster guy I am helping him finish his project after 20 years sitting in his garage ) and had a great run. Looking forward to more of the same.
Glad yours came out like you wanted -

Well I replaced my front shocks with a set of Empi “shorty” shocks.
Looks like they’re maybe 2.5 inches shorter. Had to “jack up” the trailing arms to install them, and when I let the car back down I was worried that the shocks would not have enough downward travel–that is, the suspension would not be able to go down into ruts or potholes enough.…[Read more] -

Got started on my e-brake relocation project, finally. 14 months to think about it is just about right…So here we have the interior, carpets all pulled out (and the door panels ’cause I’m making new ones of those too):
Cutting out the e-brake bracket–fun! Ruined a new cutoff wheel collet with just one wheel. Jig saw=NG; broke about five blades…[Read more] -

Glad you got out, Russ. Hope the gel works for the seats. Be sure to let us know. Wondering about your medium speed overheating issue. Anyone else experience that with their Chevette-based car?
