I’d buy one for $2200, if it was in decent running shape & not all rusty underneath. Paid $3500 for Bridget last year and thought it was alright. Some of these guys here got theirs cheaper and with lower miles.

Wow. That’s basically what the original weighed. Also looks like about a 52-48 weight distribution before you sat down in it. I’m guessing those front engine cars can be made to handle very smartly. Thanks for the info.

You could list it here. I’d also try the Samba classifieds–they have a section for “other VW-related” where kit cars like ours can be found.http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/Craigslist is where I bought mine–free listings with pics. Easy to use and lots of action. Then there’s always ebay.Make sure you take lots of pics and post all the…[Read more]

Fair amount of re-indexing how-tos around the inner webs. Here is a step-by-step. Here is a good indexing calculator. I found a couple video demonstrations even (this one covering the threaded rod tool to unload the spring plates). Looks like fun, no doubt. I been pondering this job on account of Bridget is sitting a little knock-kneed right now.…[Read more]

It’s a low-quality build, Paul, using obsolete technology. Admirable attempt though! And quite popular in their day.

Thanks for the update on Frankie, Larry. I’ll chip in again, but I wonder if Frankie is ready to pass the reins to someone more active on the forum.

Can’t see the wires too clearly in the shots you posted. You’re asking whether the existing wires in your kit remnant are FF(kit) or VW original, correct? The Martincic name, BTW, is a little bit famous.(or was that you who told me that?)

OK, got ‘er done.Mike: BCW battery box seems to be a one-piece with the rest of the front tub. Since the hood hinges on the driver’s side, this sort of makes sense, as access to the master cylinder reaching from the passenger side would be tough any way. So I went with Larry’s method.
Cut a pretty big hole and reached in and turned the nuts.…[Read more] -

Ed,
If you have a standard vw fluid tank – I used a cap off of a 1 quart oil can w/
a brass inset I bought at Lowes or HD in the plumbing section. Screw on
where the cap goes and pump up about 5 times and bleed back to front.
Re-pump if needed- may need a small rubber washer like used on a water
hose if you have a air leak. Worked great for me -…[Read more] -

Thanks, Dale. I just borrowed one from a friend. Hope it’ll be all done before the 9th. Will need to make the lid for it though. What did you use for a cap to keep the pressure in your system?Larry–your idea might be better than going through the top. Either way will work though. Thanks for the suggestion.Richard: thanks for the kind words. Hope…[Read more]

Ed,
I have a pump kit I made w/ a garden sprayer that I can bring to the pumpkin run if you still want to bleed it some more. About 5 pumps on the sprayer and I can bleed my whole system – just have to be sure you are using a standard VW Bug brake fluid tank.
Let me know,

Everything is possible, Paul. Your idea makes the most sense so far.

edward ericson replied to the topic Brake question in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 6 months ago
OK, so I got more than 1/8 “free” play, (more like a half inch) but no access at all to the 13 mm lock nut on account of there’s like a 20-inch extender bar between that and the pedal. This thing travels inside that inaccessible area beyond the “false” firewall but before the tab on the chassis to which the master cylinder is bolted…apparently…[Read more]

The more I read of this thread the more I think I’m gonna get a volt meter instead. Simpler, safer hookup and maybe a better read on the charging system too. Maybe run a wire from the generator to the idiot light so if/when the belt fails that’ll go on right off.

edward ericson replied to the topic Brake question in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 6 months ago
Thanks, gentlemen. I’ll crawl under there tonight and see if I can take out some of that free play. Maybe it’s better than I thought.

Junkman: upload pics by hitting the button on the top right of the Post Reply window–the one with the up arrow next to the tree. Follow the directons from there, navigate to the picture in your computer and hit OK. If the pic is bigger than 500 megabits or something it’ll reject it, and you’ll have to edit it to make it smaller.

Thanks, guys, I’m hip to the adjustment nut behind the pedal. Never touched it yet. There does seem to be that half-inch or less “free play” the book calls for. Will give it a closer look/feel though; what I think of as free play may be something else.Yeah, I adjusted all four shoes to just off the drums (turned the wheels while turning the star…[Read more]
