doug schmidt replied to the topic Hood length on Ford CMC in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 10 years ago
I am glad this topic came up. The PO who had mine trimmed the hood and side panels wrong and uneven. It took three months of head scratching and trial fitting to get both left and right sides even and level. Almost my break point. The fender heights are within 1/2 inch of each other. The hood took at least 5 or 6 trimmings to match up to the…[Read more]

doug schmidt replied to the topic Fender Braces – I aint got none… in the forum General Discussion 10 years ago
Braces sounded like a good idea to me in case some @3$!!* leans on the fender. It was easy to bend a tubular piece of steel and mount one end under the outer lower head light support were it attaches to the fender. The other end reaches down to the frame right about where the top of the front shock mounts . I got the idea from pictures of…[Read more]

doug schmidt replied to the topic Wiring connectors for these? in the forum General Discussion 10 years, 1 month ago
Just put my park lights on a few weeks ago. Just the same. I found it best to slide the striped wire end between the two ‘duck bills’ and crimp. The serrations you see on the inside of the flange holds the bare wire and for good measure add a touch of solder.

Thanks for the ideas. I will try all the avenues. Some one suggested having a mechanics lien put on it as though it were left at the shop with a big rebuild bill. That way ,regardless of past ownership issues, the state grants a lien title to the shop to cover expenses. With no one to object to the bill the state would issue a new title and avoid…[Read more]

I’m going back with the bill of sale and form 64 (after I cool off). Don’t want to go postal in the DMV. Hopefully can find a willing ear. I shouldn’t think this is unsolvable. It must happen sometimes.

Also I have pictures of the build along the way from fame up to body install which were given to DMV. They say that does not prove the original frame was owned by the seller when he sold it to me. They are playing CYA for any theft that could have occurred.

Tried to tell them it was built from scratch and they say the frame portion of any street vehicle must be manufactured and invoiced from a company. Does anyone know what a C.of O. from any kit supplier even looks like ? Somebody must have run into this situation before.

Thanks, it was quite a learning experience. Whoever said instructions help but each car is it’s own journey was dead on. I’ve got lots of suggestions for folks stuck for a answer to a fix.

Thanks for the compliment , I have to give credit to the paint shop. I just use bondo to fill major holes and gouges. I modified the windshield support post by cutting off the ‘horns’ on the cowl and molding rounded surfaces that conform to the stanchion from an original TD. For areas that needed strength I use glass and resin. I figured it would…[Read more]

Looks great, can you post a link to where you found it ? I’m getting ready to tow my project to the Nevada DMV to obtain a title and registration. Finally ! Two long years and lots of work. Would not like some distracted texting driver to rear end it. Images of ‘Vicki’ before and after. Nevada DMV folks seem to be very gracious in creating a new…[Read more]

I was confused at fist also about the terminology. I always thought they were called stanchions but the everyone referred to them as cowl brackets. Maybe because the replica is more an artificial stanchion. This was my cowl before the surgery.

Tried to make a plaster two part mold of fiberfab cowl brackets. Not as easy as it sounds. Having failed at two attempts (the mold broke) I have resigned and passed the brackets on to a needy soul. The adaption of original brackets was easier than mold making however. A little grinding and bondo fill was all it needed. Moss Motors supplied the…[Read more]

I have a chevette based kit and , Yes the space is quite inadequate. I will post a photo soon. A lot of bending and creative placement to make it work. Especially if you have a clutch pedal to fit.

I kind of thought some body mods would be required. But I really thought the effect was worth the effort. I order to fold the windshld down the side rail brackets with the studs and hardware must be fit to the frame also. Still looking for those puppies.
