Thanks, Paul. I’m very much hoping not to need a new engine any time soon, but I might like to tinker with one, just to reacquaint meself with the process. The 1641 needs, at most, a set of rebuilt heads–$300–yes? And as Karen agreed: these engines are small. So, maybe. Then again, I’m not in any rush & have a pretty full dance card,…[Read more]

Well, Paul, good luck with the new engine. Did you go with the MOFOCO w/ hydraulic lifters?

Holy frijoles! Get a load of those Vintage Air prices! Driving fast never looked so cool.
Mid to high 90s (at least) all last week & threatening T-storms made for a couple sweaty runs & some serious A/C envy. But with 50 horses on tap, I believe if I hooked an A/C compresser up to Bridget she’d never get above second gear.
Upper 70s yesterday and…[Read more] -

Thanks, Dan. I’ll definitely examine it before I buy parts. Hope you’re right.

I’ll be lookin to do the same when I go thru my gas tank. My guage never reads higher than 3/4. New float for sure-and maybe a TP spring as well.
Of couse, having a working gas guage does make the car less “authentic.” -

Mounted mine on the front plate, so I have extra badge bar clips; I’ll throw them in for whoever buys the badge if they want. Just send me the address & I’ll mail ’em to you.

edward ericson replied to the topic Duchess in need of wind wings in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 10 months ago
On ebay right now there are a whole pile of newly-listed windwing hinges, all of which look different to me. ebay, search “MG TD” and set the order to “newly listed” & they’re on the front page. Look to be from the same seller, “ocamg.”

Try a boat top maker. TD tops are more like Bimini tops than modern car convertible tops.

edward ericson replied to the topic VW exhaust system in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 10 months ago
Thanks, Paul. I’ll get to that this week. (The headlights, not the rear suspension). Meanwhile, no one has answered Chuck’s question!
I’d vote “the stock tips.” But I know nothing. -

Nice TD. er MGA. er . . .
Did you talk to the owner? Did he tell you why he went with MG A running gear but a Toyota mill?
And sorry to hear about the Comet. Those are usually pretty reliable, and yours is practically new! -
edward ericson replied to the topic VW exhaust system in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 10 months ago
Yeah, that was my first thought. I’ll actually have to look up how to do that job in the BCW manual. I am that much of a noob.
Won’t fix the rear camber situation though or the ride height. I found a nice how-to series a while back on doing the rear torsion bar adjustment the right way, and it looked arduous and crazy-dangerous, with lots of…[Read more] -

Chuck, I wonder if you maybe should be thinking of lifting up your back suspension. I am. I think I’m about an inch and a half low in back (noticeable mainly by the way the headlights are aimed), and so my new pipe (the Empi 3487 system, illustrated install story here) has scraped a time or two when backing out of the drive. It’s maybe 2 inches…[Read more]

Sounds like quite a cache, Richard. I sure wouldn’t mind having a spare engine and transmission, and an extra 15 horses would probably benefit Bridget–assuming they’re in there.
Then again, old parts that been settin’ would probably do with rebuilding anyway–if only to check inside for corrosion, scoring, water, etc. I’d imagine everything in…[Read more] -

We’ll see, all right. Justifying these cars would seem pretty easy, since they’re small. Good luck finding those seats.

Richard! Tell your son to get his own car! You build the Glockler III car that Johnny Von Neumann raced and I’ll replicate the Von Neumann Special TD. We’ll face off on the track at Carlisle in a couple years.

Did you get new heads, or a valve job done?Could this problem be on the other side of the rocker–i.e. the pushrods?
