I just ordered the new Wind Wing Hardware, from Finish Line Auto Parts. They are the exact same as the hardware that came with my Classic Roadsters Duchess Kit, back in 1985. They are quite pricy though, about $56 including shipping from California to Florida, for a set of four hinges and fasteners. Now I have to get some Plexi Glass from Hm Depot…[Read more]

davearoy replied to the topic Shift-rod bushing split-ring? in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
I second what Allison says about using a plastic zip tie. It was easy to install, then I lube the heck out of the shift rod and the bushing. Rob and Dave’s VW article about removing and repair on the shifter, always use the phrase of “Ramp up Right” when reinstalling the shifter plate. This has served me well upon my annual lubing up the shift rod…[Read more]

Hey Langan, I looked up on google for a Windsheild/Glass company, and they cut me a new flat autoglass windshield. They installed it in my orginal Dutchess TDr frame, all for about $150. Just a thought. I also purchased on line from a Dune Buggy web site, new rubber gaskets and the frame to car car molding. I do not remember the cost for the new…[Read more]

Ed this may sound crazy, but when I work in the garage on a cold day, I put a fan in the garage window, open up the addict access stairs, and suck all of the warm addict air into the garage. If you currently use a propane fired heater, remember to have a fresh air inlet, and monitor carbon monoxide levels. (I am just looking out for your greater…[Read more]

One big thing to consider if you purchase the orginal TD, is that you might have to purchase some of the orginal style ” wrenches, and sockets”. Many people do not realize, but orginal British tools are not a true metric size. The English mechanics had their own sizes. Just my two cents, if it were me………. I would stay with your Fiberglass…[Read more]

You may want to see if the battery posts and cable connections are clean and tight. A little bit of corrosion, can make a big difference if the battery will charge and start. You might also check to be sure the battery has the proper level of water in it. Also be sure that you have a good ground to the starter, as frame ground connections also…[Read more]

Sorry to hear about you having to sell your car. I agree your daughters education is more important. You may want to check out the Federal Direct Student Loan program, that schools offer. I did to avoid selling Herbie, as the car actually saved my wife and my life. So Herbie has been a important part of the family for the last 30 years.I am on the…[Read more]

The Head Light support arms for a Fiber Fab, are a curved flat bar, from what I have seen on other members cars. My Classic Roadster Dutchess, has the orginal MGTD round thick head light bar. You can also look at the photos of other members cars in the member profile area, as they list what kind of a MGTDr they have.Dave

I can not pull up your You Tube video because I use a iPad. Just a quick thought since I can not access your video, is the flexible donut between the steering shaft and the steering box in good repair, and the bolts tight? Like I said just my thought. If you do not have the flexible donut, then maybe your steering shaft and steering box shaft…[Read more]

Tom, yes I have used sail repair tape on my 30 ft sailboat, works well for the last 10 + years. You need to be sure the underside of the top is super clean of dust, lint, dirt etc. you also can purchase from “Sailrite ” their single needle stitch awl. Ed, this is what I came up with using 1/2″ electrical conduit. It has a hinge, so I can store it up right. I did not want to drill any holes in the fiberglass, so I used the “Tire Step design. I will stain the wood to match my dash and steering wheel.https://www.flickr.com/photos/davearoy/23503827530Dave
