Outstanding job Paul. Bet your arms are worn out. How did you deal with the chrome? I have used a polish from Germany, it does a wonderful job but is too expensive. It is more like a jewelers polish.

James Cochran replied to the topic refreshing or painting the gelcoat in the forum TD Replicas 14 years, 11 months ago
My gelcoat was totally dull and chalked. I used 600 grit wet-n-dry sandpaper and lightly removed the chalking, with lots of water and elbow grease. I then used white polishing compound and then Meguiars with UV protection. It took some hours, but it came out like a mirror. The gelcoat is about 1/32″ thick, enough for light (very light) sanding. Do…[Read more]

Greg,
Sadly congrats. I know you’ll miss her. If you’re REAL nice to Mel, I bet he will let you wash and polish his baby! I had been monitoring ebay and the last I saw was one bid at 9K, reserve not met. I hope you did great in the sale. Get some treats for Mel so he’ll let ya have a ride in his TD.
I’ll adjust the registry.
Don’t tell me the…[Read more] -

You guys crack me up
. I think Mel (Luvmytd) needs to buy Greg’s TD, so he can have both first and second place autos in his drive, one for him and one for his better half.
You notice I didn’t say who had the first place auto.
I doubt if Greg will charge delivery.JasCochran40296.3840740741

I believe I have the same on my Ford based car. I’ll go to Oreilly’s. Thanks for the info, I had checked the racks at every car parts house around including Walmart.

Welcome Rick.
You will find a wealth of knowledge and experience here, as well as awesome guys and gals. I can only speak on the front engine side. I love the front engine, but the storage space is very minimal. For long road trips we have to tow a luggage trailer (95% = wife’s luggage) if we use the TD. For picnics, etc. I use a folding rack on…[Read more] -

James Cochran replied to the topic Car Cover in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years ago
I had a water resistant fabric cover (lightweight denim) with a soft fuzzy lining. I thought it worked great, but noticed that the cover was wearing on the car body where it was touching. I assume it was dust that was trapped in the lining grinding on the car. I now use a very lightweight UV / water resistant nylon cover that packs into it’s own…[Read more]

Larry,
These guys have the 1/8″ stuff. I have not found flexible slim trim like this in stores. This should take the bending without pucker.

Makes for a nice dress up. I am going to try some for my projects.

Dan, excellent point.
The Morris design keeps alive. He would have been proud. To my eyes, the MGTC -MGTD body design is beautiful poetry, and well worth replication.

Dan, this place is in Knoxville. It’s a nice car, but I tend to like all of ours better, the older replicas rock! Good luck on the LOTTO –

Ed,
Your back must be killing you. Especially if you used the shovel in the garage. My thoughts have been with everyone in the snow belt. Whata year! Too bad we can’t ship it to Geoff.
We’re not so bad in Memphis. It’s more like a wonderland with ice.

Washington Will, super job….looks awesome!!!
I had used spar varnish on my dash, like 20 coats, took forever. The picture of my dash in my photo gallery is the first rework from the original. I had used a contact adhesive with a veneer, top of the line stuff. After a year I discovered that the heat of the sunlight was actually causing the…[Read more] - Load More
