Larry Murphy replied to the topic CHROME GRILL in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 5 months ago
Riley, Look in fareoh’s and Redhill’s photo gallery . All London Roadsters I have seen use a grille that is about 3” shorter than the original MG with the exception of Redhills car. On London Roadsters the grille shell sits on top of the VW suspension instead of in front of it .That’s why they use a shorter grille. On my London Roadster, the…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic bulbs for front fender bullet lights in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 5 months ago
I found one of the old lights. The bulb # was1126. The base was marked ”top” to show which way to insert it in the socket, The # 6 was also stamped on it so it may be a 6 volt bulb. We changed the car these lights were on to 12 volts but that may have been after we removed the lights that used this bulb.Hope this is helpful.

Paul,I hope I’m not sounding like a ”know it all” because I know for sure that I still have a lot to learn ,especially about our hobby.
I found a ”Kit Cars” magazine, vol. 1 no. 2 Winter 1984. On the last page there is a full page ad for a DAYTONA’S MIGETTE a front engine MGTD Reproduction using the Chevette engine and drive train. Fea…[Read more] -

Does this mean that you have owned the car since 1993?
Is it as well preserved as the pictures show or have you done some restoring?
How many miles are on it?
Hope I’m not being too nosey. -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic bulbs for front fender bullet lights in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 5 months ago
My father-in-law had some accessory lights about 30 years ago that used bulbs of the type you describe. I’ve got a feeling that they maybe hard to find now. Would it be possible to change the sockets to use the staggerd tab bulb?

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Different MGTD Kit Cars in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 5 months ago
Just realized I left out CMC and Fiber Fab.These cars usually hinge the engine cover to the rear of the body below where the top attaches. The VW based often have a pan connecting the front fenders that is shaped higher on the left side to clear the steering box. I think all CMC cars have this pan molded to the fenders with a seam below the…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Different MGTD Kit Cars in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 5 months ago
This is not absolutely guaranteed accurate and foolproof ,but here are some things I look for to identify the different cars.
The Allisons and BCW’S use fold down windshields, and have the guages mounted in a panel in the center of the dash.Allison rear fenders are molded to fit the round 53 MG tail lights, while the BCW rear fenders are mo…[Read more] -

Hi Schweppes, Welcome to the forum. That’s a beautiful BCW. I’m assuming by your user name and what look to me like the Scweppes Edition badges on the car ,that it is one of the 50 or less cars produced for the promotion the beverage company ran in the 1980’s. Thanks for sharing the pictures and joining the gang here.I’m sure you know that you…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Dashboard in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years, 6 months ago
Ringo, You said it real good. Those shinny dashboards do catch the eye but I chose the oil finish for my dash to allow me to easily repair any scratches or chips. To each his own opinion . I saw a FiberFab car that belonged to the owner of a body shop . He had used some combination of paints where he took a brush and created a woodgrain effect…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic who made this kit? in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 6 months ago
Mike, I saw the picture in the photo gallery. From what I see ,it looks like a FiberFab kit to me. I am basing my opinion on the pan that connects the fenders under the grille and the fact that the rear fenders connect to the running boards without any steps or molded in areas to clear the VW torsion bars.
Glad you picked this one up to re…[Read more] -

Hi and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you aboard. I too have a BCW Chevette based TD replica and a VW based London Roadster.
Your user name makes me think of a beautiful location in the south east. If I am quessing correctly we are in the same state.
Hope to see pictures of your cars soon. -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic Sun Visors in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 6 months ago
Mel, Check Geoff104,s gallery. He has visors and I think his windshield frame is like yours. Be VERY careful when drilling the mounting holes!!! DO NOT let the drill bit go in too far and contact the glass. It would be best to use a very short bit that was only long enough to reach thru the frame but not long enough to reach the glass.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic RH Drive Chassis in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 6 months ago
Allen, Here are my thoughts and I hope they will be of help to you.
Yes the TD was a right hand drive car but they were designed in a country where they drive on the ”wrong” side of the road. I think it would be awkward here in the USA.I get a funny feeling when I see a mail carrier in a right hand drive vehicle even tho I know it is easier f…[Read more] -

Hi Arial , Welcome to the forum. The Classic Roadster Duchess is a really nice TD replica. I’m sure that you will have lots of fun driving and keeping it in good condition.
Check out Ringo’s pictures in the members photo gallery. His car is a CR Duchess with Chevette suspension and a Ford engine.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic interesting Suby-powered kit in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 7 months ago
Ed, That’s a great find. Seems like I remember a kit called the Corsair. Notice the grille emblem reads MC not MG.The body appears to be one piece ,Ican’t see any seams in the pics. The end view of the hood looks extra thick and with a flange molded near the edge for even more strength.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention. -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic tires in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 7 months ago
Look in suntansailor’s gallery and you can see the same car with black and then wide whites. It’s a light yellow car so the overall effect would be the same as on a white car.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic tires in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 7 months ago
You really didn’t ask for my opinion, but I prefer black. I had whitewalls on the white TD that I sold and when I changed to black tires it gave the car an entirely different look.
Did you find new wheels ? I have only seen two replicas with the wheels you describe, both were Chevette based cars and used center caps that were held in place by t…[Read more] - Load More
