  • Chip, Congratulations on a GREAT car. Your LR is built on a custom chassis so the vin may not be on top of the tunnel under the seat ,which is the location for the ones using the VW pan. Check the driver side door jams . It may be an ”assigned vin” from the state in which it was previously registered. It could also be under the carpet  maybe on…[Read more]

  •  John, The wheel looks great!! It sure does add to the period look and blends well with the interior colors.I look forward to seeing the glove box . What is the diameter of the wheel?

  •  Paul, I know you have pumped fuel into a container, but have you checked the output PRESSURE of the new pump?  The sputtering and backfiring could be symptoms of not enough fuel getting to the carbs.

In the old forum photo gallery ,member current toy has a replica that looks like a Classic Roadster Duchess. The plate on the firewall says Empress I by American Custom Cars. Really nice car.

  •   John, I agree with your comments about London Roadsters. I’ve had mine since 1994 and have had very few problems with it. LR has one of the nicest interiors of any kit cars that I have seen with quality vinyl  on the seats, door panels, kick panels and even part of the area behind the seat. Even  the  carpeted trunk area is trimed  and the flat…[Read more]

  •  On my BCW ,the seat back is attached with  a hinge on each side at the bottom.A bolt runs thru the body and the nut on it is accessable under the rear fender. The bolts go thru the carpet also.

  •  Hi Van, Welcome to the forum. That’s a good looking BCW. The BCW’s are quality cars and use many authentic trim parts and have better than average fiberglass. To get one with very low miles on the clock is very special. The VW based BCW’s do not have an external gas filler .You simply open the hood and the tank and filler cap is in plain view.…[Read more]

  •  Hey Dick, I’m glad you decided to keep your BCW. It’s a super nice car and your plans will make it even better. Keep us informed as to the route you take with the wire wheels. It should be much easier than on a VW  based car. The smaller diameter lug bolt circle should fit inside the wire wheel center . I think that’s what gave Roy the most trouble.

  •  Roy. I’m not at all tired of the wire wheel topic. That’s the best improvement  per dollar  I’ve seen in a while, maybe ever. Thanks for working this conversion out and sharing it with us here. I know that the TD did not come with wire wheels but  I cannot think of anything that improves the appearance as much as they do. Your car looks very Eng…[Read more]

  • Congratulations!!!!! That’s a great looking car!!!

  •  Dan, Sorry to hear of your medical problems. Just remember ,”it’s not over till it’s over”. Some of us ”healthy” people just may go before you do. The most important thing for all of us is to be ready when our time comes. You are in my prayers .

  •   As you probably already know, the VW’s speedometer drive is off the left front wheel. The VW speedometer also runs at a different ratio as compared to most other cars which drive the speedometer off the transmission. Most mechanical speedometers made today require an adapter to correct the ratio to give accurate readings.Back when our cars were…[Read more]

  • Mike, I know you will have lots of fun with your new toy.

Most TD replicas use the complete wiper assembly from the VW donar car. Oreilly Auto can order the wiper arms and blades.
If by ”driver’s side glass” you are referring to the wind wing,I think Classic Roadster used a slightly different bracket than most other kits . You may end up…

  •  Dick, Remember it’s a British Coach Works and they are harder to find than some of the other brands. Unless you are in a big hurry to sell it, I’d try to hold out for something close to Ed’s ”upper value limit” figure. You just need to find the right buyer . I hate to see you give up on it ,would reall look good with those wire wheels you were…[Read more]

  •  Roy, It’s been a while since I have seen the inside of a VW brake drum,  but I think I remember  4 spider web like areas where the bolt holes are located. If you drilled the drums to match the adapters in between the existing holes and use studs with washers on them , would the washer help to distribute the stress over a larger portion of the dr…[Read more]

  •  Roy , If I am reading Allen’s description correctly, the adapters fit 4 lug VW. If they don’t fit, it would be better to adapt the adapters than to redrill the VW drums. They are reinforced in the area where the lugs attach and may be too thin to support the lug bolts if redrilled elsewhere. I love the wire wheel look . Hope you can make them work.

  •  Craig, I measured the hoods on my BCW [Chevette based] and my London Roadster [VW based ] cars and while the BCW is 3 and 1/2 ” longer, both are the same width where they meet the grille. It seems that the diminsions vary  with the different manfacturers. I did notice on the LR ,that I have to pull slightly on the side of the hood spreading it s…[Read more]

  •  James, Good to have you back  !!  I enjoyed the hard top link. I did not know that they were fitted  to the car using the quarter window attachment  points. I  wonder  why they did not make them with quarter windows?  Sure would have helped the visibility.

  •  Dick, On  my BCW, the bolts that held the fenders and hood side panel were like a round headed carriage bolt with a square shoulder that gripped the fiberglass and kept the bolt from turning as the nut on the other side was being tightened. The bolts had no slot for a screw driver and having been in place for many years, crud had built up in the t…[Read more]

  •  Roy, If you can find Calafer’s M P Lafer in the old photo gallery , I think he had some really clear pics of an e-brake handle that is near vertical in the  original location.
