Before you go and start messing with the fuel pump and rod length, have you cranked over the engine and seen or measured just how much your existing pump puts out? (Pump it out through a longer line into a bucket or fuel can).Or you can even try a gravity feed from a fuel can into the carbs and see if it will run. If the carbs are clean and…[Read more]

I wonder if you could find one of those and alter it a bit to drop onto a VW.

Looks like he was scared to death riding in the car with you.:-)Hope you had a good time with the in-laws. (Or maybe you scared them away and they won’t be back for a while).;)

What kind of problems are you having and are you sure it’s from the pump? These things are pretty reliable.

Dan – what type of wire wheel baskets do you have, and how many?

If he had taken my advice and just disconnected the fuel line from the filter he would have found out the same thing without removing the tank – a whole lot easier I think.Or, what he probably did, is just remove the cap on the filler neck and look inside.mrlmd2012-07-10 15:24:23

I was going to ask you if you ran out of gas but I thought that would be too dumb of a question.Glad you sorted it out, at least you now know what to do next time (ha) and we don’t each try to come up with the best solution.

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic it happened again in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 10 months ago
All this advice is nice, but you still have to test the output of the fuel pump. Attach another line to the outlet of the pump and run it into a fuel can away from the car and turn the engine over and see if it pumps fuel. If it does pump. then everything in the line is open. If it doesn’t pump, then the pump may need replacement if the line’s not…[Read more]

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad new fuel pump, but,…you have to start at the tank and work all the way back to the carb to check for the problems instead of just replacing parts and hopeing to hit on the answer.Disconnect the fuel line from the tank at the filter and see if there’s a free flow of fuel, if not, blow back…[Read more]

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic Rear torsion indexing-sag removal in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 11 months ago
So how come coil over springs can work for the rear to raise it up, but you can’t do that for the front end? Won’t those springs give a really harsh bumpy ride like is described for the front, or doesn’t that matter here and why not?

My car in Florida is titled as a 1987 ASPT RD, whatever that means, (roadster), and the insurance card says 1987 1953 MGTD. What does ASPT mean?

After prepping the surface – It’s a coating that supposedly will fill in open pores in the gelcoat. May improve appearance, has to be periodically reapplied. Moderately expensive. Promoted on marine sites for boats.

I tried that Nexus polish promoted by others on here and wasn’t too impressed with the “shine” I got. My faded patina though adds some authenticity to my car. No matter what I wax it or polish it with, it doesn’t change much. Either I have to accept how it looks, which is not bad, or go to something more aggressive.

If you need a new wind wing, you can remove the passenger’s side and have a shop cut you out a new one to match. Still have the bracket on the window frame.

Do you have the tin in place underneath the engine? I also put in a galvalume metal panel made from a sheet of roofing material as a firewall in front of my engine, and it runs much cooler now according to my oil temp gauge. This is the way the VW’s were originally designed and I think it works well. Plus I have the newer doghouse fan and oil…[Read more]

Glad you finally found it – it had to be a ground problem like I first said. Electrical issues can be a bear to find – you have to check the entire circuit beginning to end to find the problem and many times visual inspections do not do the trick, you have to take things apart, tug on wires, use a meter to check for continuity, etc.. It’s usually…[Read more]
