Very nice looking car. Sorry to hear you had such a disappointing experience with it.
Gateway Classic Cars is a great company to deal with. Extremely friendly and competent staff. Their prices are not too high considering all they do. They do a super job presenting the cars to their best. Beside their showrooms, they also list on Ebay, so your…[Read more]

I hope it all comes together for you. My second car was a Spitfire with 4sp overdrive. Fast as stink. My roommate got a ticket in Texas for doing 110mph. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to try that kind of trick in a TDr!

Anyway, good luck with your project. Keep us pic’d and posted.

While on this topic, how difficult is it to install a temperature gauge? My LR has never had one, but I think it would be good to have. Thanks in advance.

I agree with you, John. I am sort of confused why someone would get a tribute car, which is not, nor ever will be a “real thing”. If what you want is authenticity, you should get the original and be willing (and able) to do whatever is necessary to get it where you want it to be.
A tribute car, no matter what kind; Bugatti, Porsche, Laborghini,…[Read more]

I purchased a banjo wheel from Forever Sharp back in June. It was one of their “factory seconds”, meaning it had a flawed finish. It was about 40% off the regular cost; less than $100.The finish was WAY to glossy for me, anyway. So I stripped it back to the bare wood, stained it a flat walnut and buffed it a little.Looks COOL! Easy to install.…[Read more]

I forgot how HOT it could get in a convertible! One of the WORST times I had was getting stuck in Chicago construction traffic last summer at 98 deg. I thought I would FRY! Really do need a top, even in the tropics!

It doesn’t look like the first car ever had a top,not that you need one in L.V. The red one would be better year round choice. But again, living in L.V. you wouldn’t need to use the top that often. I think these cars look nice with a top, even if it’s folded down. Both look like nice cars…

Me,I visit everyday to see if there are any new members to greet, or if someone has posted pics of a car show they’ve been in, or just to check in.
Like many member sites the postings go up and down (sort of like the stock market), and right now it’s sort of slow. When (and if) I have something to toss in to the ring, I do.
I heard long time ago…[Read more]

scubasteve started the topic Tachometer Wiring Question in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 4 months ago
I am adding a tachometer to my VW based car. The instructions state to connect the ‘red wire’ to positive, ‘black wire’ to negative, ‘white wire’ to lights and the ‘green wire’ to the ‘negative side’ of the coil.
There is a big, fat BLACK wire that goes from the coil to the TOP of the distributor cap and a small GREEN wire that goes from the…[Read more]

CAN I GET AN “AMEN!” FROM THE CHOIR?!
I just spent the whole day getting the steering coupler (20 min’s.) and the shift rod bushing and shift coupler (4hrs) replaced. The actual work replacing the shift parts took only about 1 1/2 hrs (even WITH watching the JBug video) but three times that dinking around with the adjustments. Never DID get it…[Read more]

Saturday was SUCH a nice day, I took the Bugatti for a short cruise and drove past nearby Reindeer ranch. The owners were super people who insisted I let them take pics (twist my arm!). I told them I had another car and after Bug pics, I dashed home and returned with the LR. Everyone was thrilled by both.
(a BIG THANK YOU to Ed for the pic…[Read more]

Paul, do you have this replacement in your car? Seems like a good idea for replacement, if, like you say, the nylon bushing lasts only a year or so.
I may look in to one, since mine has gone out and I’m replacing it anyway. The bushing I took out of mine had split in to three pieces and I doubt brass would poop out.
