Paul, Thanks for the link to Mark’s BCW trans and other stuff . I thought I had read everything about what’s now my pride and joy but had missed that one. I had tried to explain the clearence issue to OldRoadie but this is much easier to follow since Mark actually did the disassembly and redesigning of the trans mounting plate. Oldroadie…
I have no idea if this will help or hurt…but Pink MG had issues with the transmission mount in a Chevette powered BCW.
Mark believes BCW built running chassis, then bonded the bodies to the chassis, forever sealing in the engine and trans! There is no clearance above the transmission.
Your diificulties raising the trans high…[Read more] -

Okay, so she’s up on jack stands in the rear, front wheels chocked and I’ve
got the nut and big washer off. You can plainly see the mount is torn when
the floor jack starts to lift the trans. I can’t seem to get the tans up high
enough to clear the trans bolt. Still no Chevette manual so I’m just going on
past limited experience…does this mean…[Read more] -

I have been having this ridiculous problem with my car that is unpredictable, where I may ride for a mile or 5 miles or 20 miles and it stalls just like it runs out of gas. There are no more pieces of black rubber or plastic threads plugging up my main jet, nothing appearing in the fuel filter between the mechanical VW pump and the carb, but I’m…[Read more]

I bought the older style — it required a whole lot less work to remove the seat tracks.

JBugs has separate part numbers for: 1946 to 1970 “standard” Beetle floor pans.1971 and 19721973 to 1977The year-specific pages imply the only difference is the seat rails. http://www.jbugs.com/category/vw-floor-pans-support-rails.ht mlThat “center hump” on the 1973 to 1977 bothers me. It appears to be just more stuff to cut off the pans.I…[Read more]

Hello All-
As some of you know, I had asked a friend to handle the sale of my father’s nice little MGTD. He assured me he would take good care of it and would work hard to sell it for me. Needless to say, that didn’t happen…and now, “said” friend is moving.
I saw the leprechaun yesterday and was horrified with what I saw…the roof has…[Read more] -

I think your wheels look good Montie. I like your make do with whats on hand approach. I just discovered two of my wheels have a lot of pitting that someone had painted over. The other three will sandblast clean just fine. The two that are pitted are very rough and will never look good exposed. If I cant find two good used wheels local I will…[Read more]

The issue with the filters and fires was two problems. First the
location of most filters being above the distrivutor or below
the coils. Not the best lcation is either end of the filter leaks.
Second id that the ends leak. And the #1 cause for the leak is
a poor connection to the hose. Use proper braided hose and
the correct size clamp,…[Read more] -

So two brown bottles and and old filter, I mean why throw them away, I might not be able to find one someday and need it. A lighter and 5 minutes to spare. I re-did mine earlier this year, I was going to do the same a schu, but with my custom bases and the storage under I opted for new foam. I went to a local shop and got some 5″ very dense foam. Took care of the TB syndrom. Before about an hr drive was all these old tired buns could handle, now pretty much no TBS.
