Rob,
I have a fix that I did on my car seats w/ pictures somewhere on the site – In
my opinion it is way better then just changing out the foam – take a look and
let me know if you have any questions. No more DBS ( Dead Butt Syndrome ) -

Keep in mind the tunnel is the backbone of the chassis and is where all the strength comes from. The frame head can be replaced but I’m not sure about the rear bulkhead. The floor pans are nothing and really don’t provide much in mechanical strength to the chassis so replacing them is not a big deal and commonly done. However I’d seriously think…[Read more]

Awesome!
I did Mt. Washington in my Jovi Mercedes (a Chrysler LeBaron based Mercedes SL 600 reproduction). It was about 75 degrees at the base and snowing at the top of the mountain!
Like Wobby says…good for the soul! -
Tom Colello replied to the topic question about fuel filters in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 9 months ago
The plastic filters are fine in the engine compartment from a heat stand point. Just make sure they aren’t touching anything that might get hot. The necessity for two filters suggests to me that you may have a dirty tank or fuel line problem. One filter should be plenty and yes they never fill up completely.
There is a lot of talk amoung the VW…[Read more] -

Thanks for the advice guys. I’m gonna order the top this week. My side curtins are in excellent condition and I sure wish he could match the fabric color but can’t. For now I’m gonna go with a dark brown stay fast canvas that will match the trim on the side curtins then later get the side curtins done to match the top. Gotta be ready for cooler…[Read more]

Ed glad to hear you made it home. Any ride is a good ride. I in the middle of desaster recovery needed a get away. I pursuaded Mrs Wobby to join me for a jaunt up Mt Washington. Guys I’ve done this on my bike, a Opel GT, a model A, But never with Mrs Wobby or with Ally. I will say at sometime in the next year or so this is the place for a TD…[Read more]

I have Tempur-Pedic mattress. Highly recommended to sleep on. And other things.
But I think the way the memory foam works would make it too soft for a car seat. My mattress is a “firm” Tempur-Pedic. But when you sit down on it, you sink pretty far down.
My recommendation for a car seat…use a much denser foam for the seat cushions, then p…[Read more] -

Scrolling? What scrolling?
Actually Ed, it’s a veri hi-tech solution. Once thepicture are loaded, open tehpost to edit it, click on a picture, use the scroll bars to find the lower right corner, and just point, click, hold the mouse button down and drag the corner of the picture.
I think I got the proportions right when resized your pics. -

A rattle can finish will be fine and is likely the best match for an original wheel. Rremember, these cars were built by an English industry still recovering from WW II. Fit and finish were as good as they coudl do with what they had.
(Potentially interesting side comment: WW II is also the reason British cars of the late 1940’s and the 1950s l…[Read more] -

Rockyx,
Thanks for sharing your story!
You have all the right reasons to restore that pan and the car. My only advice on the pan, which I’m sure you don’t need to hear is to not comprpomise safety.
That said, every VW pan based Porsche Speedster replica that is on the road has had its center tunnel cut in half and welded back together.
So the r…[Read more] -

Dan,
When you turn off the Ignition key does it kill the power to the module?
Constant power to the module could be your issue. -

Red and black are good colors. There are a few that way in the photo gallery. Mine is all MG red. White interior and white top. Once I find the engine the the chassis work begins. I’ve pedals ad shifter to move. Oh me!

Rockyx,
Thanks for shareing your story. I lost my dad a few years ago and always wanted a project to do with him.
I wish I had one of my old VW’s back to donate to your car. Back in the 70’s I had over 20 at one time, all by the way side now. Built sand rails, Baha’s some just swapped motors and resold. For now all I can offer is some good…[Read more] -

I have used that stuff on vinyl windows on boats (Insinglass), like our convertible tops have, but never used it on solid/rigid fiberglass or plastic. I guess it will work on the wind wings too to remove fine scratches. There are a host or products to restore gelcoat but I am going to try that. How far does the 8 oz. bottle go, can you do the…[Read more]
