  • Boy, we’re a motley bunch, huh?Meanwhile, over at the Speedster forum, they’ve been debating the merits of this $7k suspension setup versus this full A-arm chassis. Not many takers, but still, a very different vibe.I’m glad those guys let us hang around them.

  • There is a company in San Diego advertizing body parts ,interiors and all the stuff that MGMagic used to carry. I sent them an e-mail and will let you know when they will be cranked up and really selling parts.

  • I had almost the same scenario with my MiGi (no name yet, except Chitty Bang Bang from my housemate).
    Car bottomed out the shocks
    I got shorter shocks
    100% improvement in ride
now had tie rods hitting underside of body
    Flipped the tie rod ends
    Now have ferder/tire interference
Looking for bottoming out snubbers to go on the shocks and shock ex…[Read more]

  • Dan R is correct. None of these front engine/RWD TD Replica’s are on an OEM manufacturer’s frame. Both the Pinto/Mustang II and Chevette/Pontiac T-1000 were Uni-body cars and had no frames.
The frames for these replica’s were all provided by the kit manufacturers, Classic Motor Carriage/FiberFab, Classic Roadsters Ltd, British Coach Works, etc.…[Read more]

  • @mikeeva, re the TF dash… Not sure where one would source those octagonal gauges, except through Abingdon. I bet that’s the holdup.

Very cool I also have one of these Migi by Daytona with a six didget number on a strip set in the gel. Also has the same copyright 1975 by Laverne J Martincic. I haven’t been able to tell for sure if the others have a pipeing material installed between the different body parts, my does and has a painted white pin line at the fenderline of the…[Read more]

Ray OK ,,,this post answered my question under the general post . As your question ..mine also a chevy powered kit ,the frame is not chevy . but is built by F/F . keep the body as low as you can to the battery box if I was to do that part on my car I would keep it all low .. I would lower the B/box mine was all glassed in when I got her  she i…[Read more]

     Hi Dan

  • Thanks, Larry. Pretty sure it’s not the wheel. The body is not quite exactly centered on the pan. And it won’t skoot over any ’cause the steering box is already touching the radiator shroud. That seems to be the compromise made by the builder: you skoot the steering box a half inch outboard and you’re home… except then the steering wheel doesn’t…[Read more]

  •  Ed, Is it possible that your left front wheel is an aftermarket item with less set back than stock VW?
If you removed leaves to get a softer ride you may need to adjust the ride height to a higher position. If it is lower than before, the shocks may not have been bottoming out. If you want it to set lower ,you may need the shorter shocks.

  • HAR!I was shocked to find my toe-in guess when I put the new tie rod ends
on was spot-on. She was an eighth toed in, according to my trusty
sticks, no adjustment needed……of the toe-in anyway. Looks like I somehow got positive camber on at least the driver’s side. Very hard to measure this using my iPhone level though… So I will be turning…[Read more]

  • The MG  TF was a facelifted MG TD.Mike is correct. The TF Victor was a TF replica using MGB running gear and a GM V8. Kind of a nice circle of life in automotive terms!Been digging around for some info on the Victor. This forum thread has some pics:http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?1,1619768I found some spec sheets in Spanish. They…[Read more]

  • Don’t worry Ed. It is highly unlikely that she’ll break in half. The center tunnel is a strong back-bone and can hold the car together. Now, the front end may fall off, like happened to a friend’s Type 1 when I was in high school. Or your feet may drop through the floor pan (wear old shoes!).But she won’t snap in half! And don’t bother to thank me!…[Read more]

  • from what i’ve read, they were mgb chassis in tf clothing. maby a buick/rover aluminum v8 would be more civil. i often wonder why the original dash wasn’t reproduced in any kit car ive seen should not be difficult to do.

  • Thanks, Duck. Yeah, the “rust repair” is an embarrassment. I may have bought myself a year or two with it, but really what needs to happen–and I should’ve figured this out this before I bought the car–is the body’s got to come off the pan and the pan has to be re-done with new metal. Most everything up front there is questionable, at best, with…[Read more]

I helped do one of these several years ago with a buddy on his bug. My biggest memory of it was it was not fun at all and before we was done we was wondering what we had got ourselves into and why we had done so. Job well done I know guys that turn a wrench regularly and they would shy away from what you just acomplished. I don’t know that I h…[Read more]

  • Back at it today, 4 p.m. Temp in the garage a balmy40 degrees F. Decided it was time to do the tie rod ends:Went surprisingly smoove. Here’s the driver’s side:Original stuff, looks like, and plenny of play in them both, along with the torn boots. I measured the full length of it and then made the new one almost an eighth longer, on account of when…[Read more]
