Rick,
You listed this post twice. I am going to delete one of them.
Also, you need to state whether this is a GM, Ford or VW based kit as all their fenders/running boards are different. -

It also says it has spoked wheels and it has fake wire “baskets” and that it has a “leather interios”…I’ll bet it’s vinyl. None of the TD replica kit manufacturers ever offered leather.
It looks like it’s a front engine kit and based on the hood hinges being on the left and the spare being directly attached to the rear “gas tank”, it’s probably…[Read more] -

You may have to swap the lower pulley on the crank snout too. It depends on what set up you get to mount the pump/reservoir. Of course you’ll need a V-belt to drive the pump too.
I still can’t find the Pennsylvania Mustang II used parts guy. Try this website and see what you get.

Been away from the forum for a few says thrashing on the 40 Ford.
Your hot rods friends are correct…the OEM sender will not work with the Classic Gauges unit.
This is the precise reason I use mechanical, not electrical gauges in all of my cars. In addition to being hooked up mechanically, they are more accurate and work faster too.
Buy them c…[Read more] -

Hi Ringo, Glad to hear that your wiring checked out ok. Sounds like you had the correct sender for the engine but it did not match the guage. Hang in there, you’ll get it worked out. Larry M.

Larry and gang;
Talked to some hot rod friends and they say that the stock sender won’t work with after market guages. Testing the unit by grounding the wire when switch is on shows that guage and wiring is okay.So I’ve ordered a sending unit and some bushings from Classic Instruments.
We’ll see. (they bet me a 6 pack they’re right!)

Hi Larry;
Thanks for the input. My security guard and I think I replaced the sender prior to the final hook up of the dash. (You know, looking to find and replace any loose links in the electrical while it was all apart.) To be honest, I didn’t notice the oil guage pegged until I got back from our rattle run. So, it could be the wiring but I…[Read more] -

Geoff,
Thanks for the compliments. The devil is in the details and there’s still lot’s of detailing to do!
Haven’t gone on any rides yet because it’s not registered/insured yet. Just ran it up and down the hill a few times. Runs really good. Smooth, quiet and plenty of zip.

Ringo, I know that you have reworked the dash and it looks great,but did the guage problem start with the redo or was it working ok till you changed the sender? If the sender replacement was the only thing that caused the different reading,it sounds like a bad sender or the wrong one for the guage. Maybe it was packeged wrong. You might check…[Read more]

You’re right…that’s NOT how it’s done…GEEEZ!
It’s done by relocating the torsion arms on the splines of the torsion bars.
I suggest you get the VW Beetle “Red Book” by Robert Bentley publishers. It spells out the procedure. Check out this link.

I’m about as far from BC as you can get. I live at the central NJ Shore, about 30 miles south of NYC and 60 miles north of Atlantic City.
Using http://www.rockauto.com is where you can get most all of the parts you need. I will continue to look for that guy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania who has the Mustang II junkyard.
In the mean time, try web searches and…[Read more] -

Hi Jennifer,
Converting to power steering will not require changing the steering column. It requires changing the steering rack from a manual to power. It will also require a shorter lower steering column due the fact that the output shaft on the power steering rack is longer.
The Pinto/Mustang II steering rack is very common and is found in…[Read more] -

Hi gang;
Testors also makes a clear turn signal amber that works great on the front running (turn signal) lights if you can’t find a yellow bulb.
