edward ericson replied to the topic 1835 cc engine dual carbs in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 6 months ago
Looks to me like there are some very substantial differences in engine room among the various kits. Bridget–a British Coach Works Model 52–is extremely tight under the rear deck, without room for even a low profile bug air filter atop its single Solex carb. Small dual carbs might fit on her but because of the narrow opening into the engine bay,…[Read more]

You may find a little info with the Google. Or take it to any cruise-in.Your engine is basically the same thing Chevy put in almost every car it made from 1955 through, I think, 1998. Durable and easy to work on, and very forgiving of newbie errors such as driving the main bearings out with a screwdriver and a hammer. Also, parts are not…[Read more]

sounda like a blast! We’ll be cruisin’ the TDs up here this Saturday–hoping for nice weather. Karen and I took Bridget apple picking at Millburn Orchards on Saturday and that was a nice ride along Rt 1 (the non-busy part) but a little bit cool on the way in and just a touch rainy on the way home. Oh well, nothing a little apple pie can’t fix! We…[Read more]

The TDs had blackwalls, yes, but they were and are so “convertible” the wide whites can look “right.” What do I mean by “convertible?”Well, top up, top down, windscreen up, windscreen down, with or without wind wings. Some had the windshield removed and those little aeroscreens installed. Some of those had the front fenders pulled and replaced by li…[Read more]

Did you look at the picture Paul posted? There’s a smaller barrel with a spade connection below the choke–could be on either side of the carb. Connect your + wire from the coil to that thing and try again. Dollars to donuts that’s your issue. If not, then probably clogged idle jet–you need a small strand of stiff wire to poke it out.All this…[Read more]

Mrimd,
Might be easy to order a set of adjustable coilovers from JC Witney and give
that a try – if it dies not work the way you want send them back for a full
credit. It must be noted that I removed all the small leaves in the front of
mine so the ride is not harsh w/ the coilovers. -

Yeah, saw those. The speedster guy who praised them said he had a good experience & they were low bid. But I don’t know if I’d use them with that many bad reviews.

Bill:I bought one of the big Bluemels Brooklands look-alikes at socal. With minor mods it bolted up where the old Grant was–three bolts. It was crazy high though–near $400. I don’t regret it one little bit–even though I’m a reporter like you.Lots of folks tell me they don’t think they’d like driving with it–since it leaves so little belly…[Read more]
