Paul,
That makes sense. I am not familiar with the construction of the VW Beetle. I do know they are awesome, fun and durable. -

I am not familiar with the VW pans or replacement, so I am probably speaking out of my league here, but I had a Pontiac where the floor pans had rusted out. I removed the interior, used duct tape and cardboard to bridge the rotten out sections and holes and then fiberglassed the entire thing as one piece until it was about a 3/16th of an inch…[Read more]

James Cochran replied to the topic Door Seals in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 7 months ago
I agree with Paul. I used the #6 on mine. Mounted on the door side, worked well. I do have doors that have a gap that varies, it’s like the doors are warped. In my case I went with the smaller height seal. I didn’t so much as have a problem with weather, mine was to stop the door from hitting the body (bang bang bang
). #6 did great,

300 BUCKS!
Great job Allen. The grill alone is worth more than that.
The kit of $8,000, 20 years ago in 1990 currency. I wonder how that computes to today’s $. WOW, awesome find! -

I’m with Ed, a zillion to one….probably the only third owner new unopened 1983 kit ever. Allen, there is more than a century of combined knowledge in this group. We’re like the Verizon commercial with all the folks standing behind you, except we don’t lose signal,….. as much
. Post pics along the way. That will help document the build and we…[Read more]

Hey Rob, I have a problem with mine too!
I need to warn Allen and anyone that wants to add the Moss Motors headlight dress up add-on thing (see my headlights in the later pictures), don’t. RUN away. The original headlight trim ring is an exact fit, when you add the Moss part, the thickness of the metal makes it too tight of a fit against the light…[Read more] -

Keep telling yourself that it’s a labor of love, a labor of love, a labor of love.
Post progress pics when you can. I’ve got the same car and engine configuration. -

Hey Montie,
I use my garage (and attic) for archiving also.
Someday, it will all be worth a lot of money and you never know when retro will come around. I had a stack of old free boat brochures in a box I started to trash, but sold each one on ebay for between $7-$10 EACH, go figure. I hit all the boat and car shows now for the freebies, archive…[Read more] -

No cigars?I had picked up a marine first aid kit in a plastic water tight case. Mine is up under the dash. The shark repellent comes in so handy
.I need to swap the repellent with a set of fuses, I suppose.
Good idea on the spare fuel filter. I need to add one.

Larry, do a fur covered strap for those cooler days and you can do an Abe Lincoln look, or half and half for an Elvis sideburn look.

Looks Lafer’ish to me.
I like the cap, but I really like Ringo’s goggles to go with the cap. Ringo, you old dog you.
I had thought of getting one of those caps to keep my thinning hair from thinning any more, but too late. In the south we just wear a baseball cap….backwards. Not so Brit, but works…..wee doggies!
Is this what happens when a…[Read more] -

My Ford 2.3 has the shifter back so far that I hit the seat back when shifting. Uncomfortable at first, but I have gotten used to it. Like Montie, I changed my seat bases and back for more room. There is an illustration and photos in my photos. I am 6 foot. I like having the seat base lower and tilted. I can also now see thru the windshield glass…[Read more]

I used the braided stainless steel from the plumbing department of Home Depot. It was on flexible water supply lines for sinks and toilets. Nice dress up for less money. I used the entire supply line with the wires run up the pipe. The end fitting was polished stainless steel.
