Take your time and hold out for a good solid chassis. The better the chassis you can find, the easier your job will be.
My Duchess kit was delivered in the fall of 1981. But my search for a donor car lasted months longer. During that time I sat in my office with the Duchess steering wheel making vroom vroom noises!
Ultimately I found the perfect…[Read more] -

My Duchess serial number is DS-81-1105DS stands for Duchess81 was the year the kit was produced. It delivered to me late in 1981.1105 is likely a sequential serial number. But I have trouble believing they had produced over 1000 kits in 1981. Maybe they started at 1001? I do not know.So your B79, should mean the kit was produced in 1979 and is…[Read more]

OK, Rob, slowly step away from the vehicle, lay your tools on the ground and keep your hands where we can see them. The nice men in the white coats in the car with the pretty flashy lights will be along soon to “help” you.

Larry hit the nail on the head. And not only would the struts not fit, the upper mounts go to the steel VW body. That steel is, um, missing! on our TD replicas!

Just my opinion, but the stock Beetle harness will have far more than you need. Dune buggy harnesses usually include what you need to a VW based kit car.

I am humbled by Larry’s kind words.
But sure enough, my 1982 Classic Roadsters Duchess kit, which went on the road in spring 1983 is still at it 27 years later.
Jim, I do have my original build manual. I’ve been meaning to scan it into a pdf (or perhaps several). I’ll get off my butt and do that.
Stay tuned.PMOSSBERG40414.9248958333 -

I know guys that won’t touch the spring loaded tubes because they think they won’t seal right. I know other guys that use them all the time with no problems. That said, we know what the VW engineers used. If you want to stay with stock tubes, it really is not that bad a job to change them.To replace the stock tubes, you don’t have to actually pull…[Read more]
