Had my Classic Roadsters TD actually made it to Carlisle, I’d have been able to show you my roof cover.Basically, it’s a big envelope that the folded roof fits into. It’s as wide as the folded roof. The open edge is towards the front, with a full width velcro “seal”. It does not attach to the car. You just pull it around the folded roof and close…[Read more]

Not even close.
The old New Jersey Replicar Club had two members living in north-eastern Pennsylvania that had front engined TD’s, FiberFabs I think, one red, the other a light, creamy yellow, each with a matching trailer.
These two guys and their wives had covered the entire contintental US in their TDs, including several cross country vacations.…[Read more] -

First, welcome Storyboy. For the most part, a standard (i.e. original) MG TD top and side
curtains will not fit a TD replica. You can also try MG Magic. Search the site, you’ll find lot’s of threads with MG Magic’s info. You could also go to a boat place and have a top sewn.It is possible to mount a real spare on the fiberglass deck. But you need…[Read more] -

Having watched in my rear view mirror as Ed’s brakes locked up…I’m glad to hear they are getting straightened out.
Ya know, brakes or not, you guys that can simply drive your TDs around are really starting to tick me off.
I’ve still not been able to set aside a weekend to pull my motor. So I still don’t know what’s going on inside.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Need a new windshield in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 3 months ago
The glass should be DOT stamped safety glass. If not, the manufacturer/builder/previous owner got away with something. And you are luck you’ve never had an incident. Laminated windshield glass crumbles into small, dull “balls” of glass. Go through normal plate glass, and you will have serious problems. so even of there is “normal” glass in there…[Read more]

Yeah. Ranting is fine here.
Really tho, I would be patient and do it the right way…for exactly the reasons you referred to in your initial post.Unless of course you can finagle a title for a 52 MG TD!

I second all of the above.
In particular the brake line repplacement. They may look OK from the outside, but could be rotting away from within. -

Hey oldbuzz,
I know some people just leave their car titled and registered as the original VW donor car. I do not recommend that. You are asking for much trouble down the road.
Two minutes on Wisconsin’s DMV site and I found the following, which is pretty much all you need to know to properly title your kit car in Wisconsin.

Great to see the progress Scott.Hey, the first time I drove my Duchess I was sitting on a plastic milk crate. But she was mechanically and electrically ready to run, and I could not hold back any longer.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Front fender turn signal lights in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 3 months ago
Lee,
The “buffalo slimlight” will not look correct when mounted. They appear to be on a post, which will sit them up on the fender. The correct style have a flat bottom and mount flush with the fender top.
If you don’t want to go the pricey Moss Motors route, I suggest you wait it out. A pair will turn up on ebay eventually, -

Tom,
I agree with Larry.
If the oxidation is coming back that fast, it would seem that polishing is not really getting rid of it in the first place. It sounds like a very fine wet sanding is needed on your car. Then the polish and wax.

Inside the passenger compartment sure sounds better than in the engine compartment and “under the battery”. I know today’s batteries are sealed. But even they have small vents. Why run the risk of battery acid corrosion on your expensive computer modules?

Bill, Here are the instructions from Classic Roadsters’ assembly manual for a 1969 to 1971 VW wiper motor. CR assumes the VW wiring harness is gone. Btu if you track your wires back to the connections on the wiper motor, you should see the numbered terminals mentioned in the instructions.Cut 16″ of 14 gauge Black wire and secure a female slide…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Rechrome or replace in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 3 months ago
The easy answer is “it depends”.
I would check prices for both options and just do the cheapest.
Moss Motors also has them, part #454-010. But they are pricey at $49.95 each! Yikes!
They are made VERY well though (see http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/products/PDF/454-010.pdf)
In either case, you also want to replace the rubber strips between the…[Read more] -
