James;You might want to check out this product. I used it under the floor of my F-100 and thought about using it on the Duchess. It works great since it attaches to the floor of the car with rivets or screws. Easier than fabricating a stainless shield. http://paceperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS& ;Ca…[Read more]

James,Converters were required on all vehicles from ’81 on. This year usually applies what year the vehicle is registered as, rather than the engine. So, I guess you are at the mercy of what Memphis interprets. If engine year, you’re OK without one.I’ve read some discussions on this subject on some of the classic and hot rod sites and it p…[Read more]

John,Welcome to the group.Pictures would really make all the difference. Does the frame already have any of the suspension or drive train already mounted to it? If they are not mounted but with the kit be sure to include pictures of those too.Luck, Ringo

What’s this “retirement” you guys are talking about???I heard stories about that years ago but I thought they were just fairy tales designed to keep us putting money into large holes that were called 401Ks. Let me know if I missed something!Geoff, I was your age when these first came out. Had I known what fun they were I would have gotten on…[Read more]

James;
Thanks for the link. Makes me put on my thinking cap about how to mount a video camera to my car and take a ride. Hmmmmm……..duct tape……bailing wire………or just lean out the door.
This will need some more planning.

Hey Gang;
got a new licnese plate. I know our replicas are supposed to be of 52s, but I was born in ’53, so I took some liberties.

This is a bimini top boot that I got at a marine supply. I think it really adds to the overall look.

Steve Crites replied to the topic Engine Compartment "Bubble" in the forum General Discussion 17 years ago
Geoff,It’s for the generator. Normally, enough clearance but when the belt would stretch the generator would get too close for comfort.RingoThis is according to my co-worker friend who has a real TD and has been known to be full of it at times. But, it makes sense to me.

Steve Crites replied to the topic UK custom license plate in the forum General Discussion 17 years ago
Mel;The photo in your gallery looks like you have an authentic TD bumper. Before you plan on welding, take a look under your bumper between the guards and you should see 2 holes close to the guards. These were original mounting holes and you can make a bracket with some sheet steel (or order the replacement bracket from Moss that’s made of…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic Chrome Wheel Cleaner in the forum General Discussion 17 years ago
JamesThe rust will keep coming back unless you really seal it after cleaning. A friend of mine would use chrome polish and complain about how often he had to do it. He wasn’t waxing it after the polish, so it would only last a few weeks. Once waxed, it did much better. I would use the clear sealant making sure it’s enamel or lacquer clear coa…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic Starter Problem in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 17 years ago
Rich and gang;As a “Ford guy” I’ll put in my 2 cents. Ford starters either work or don’t. Why?…. they’re Ford Starters!!!When they act up, it’s either the starter or the flywheel (flexplate). No adjustment, no shims, no nothing except maybe a sacrifice to the great FoMoCo.

Nice work! The devil is in the details and you’re coming up with some great ideas. I’d like to see some photos of the net and chrome strips for the luggage area. I’m working on a better toolbox idea for my compartment and the net and strips sound promising.

Steve Crites replied to the topic Why we have replicas in the forum General Discussion 17 years ago
Because of a co-worker with a real TD, my wife had wanted one for years. I remembered from the 80’s when all the replicas were first coming out so I went for a search for one. The wife couldn’t understand that I wanted to “go with what I know”. When I explained that I would have to get all new tools (I know, that was kinda sneaky of me), she w…[Read more]

Well, now you’ve gone and done it!
That’s the best way to do the thing right.
By my way of thinking, you’ve just increased the fun factor by 1000%. But as my wife would tell you, I’m a sick individual.
Good luck,

Hi WolfpowRefinishing your current dash should look great with the least amount of work. You still need to take it off the car to make sure you dont scar up the gauges. Mark all the wires and where they connect. Don’t trust your memory. Once off it’s a simple matter of removing the old varnish with 120 grit sand paper, progressing to 180 un…[Read more]
