I will admit that I do miss the MG, but our new( 1963 ) falcon convertible is fun to ride around in too! Besides, We have visitation rights from the folks we sold it to.

May 3, 2010 at 3:38 pm #241243We got near enough to our price to let it go, and I made sure the new guy, Mike, knows that this is the place to come for great advice and encouragement.
The Falcon came today, and while it needs a bit more work than we would have hoped for, it wasn’t that far from what we expected. We both think that our 3K budget is ample enough to make her shine like new. I’ll post pix on my flickr site as we go along.
Thanks for everything

April 26, 2010 at 5:42 pm #241223That’s the car. My wife and I like to travel around the state for the car shows, and frankly, my bride says the MG can be scary on the highway. And since we ALL know that if SHE ain’t happy, you won’t be happy, she’s getting her way. We bought a 1963 Falcon Convertible, red and white.
April 24, 2010 at 12:58 pm #241174This event shows that there are some really great people out there willing and able to help when you need it the most. That said, a $20 and a cell phone will almost always get you home.

April 5, 2010 at 8:39 am #241050I have the Ford engine, and I also have to fill slower than normal. Not bad, just slower. The location of the tank and the ensuing bends in the fill tank are the cause for the slow fill. Also, there is no vent line from the tank to the fill cap, so the tank is always “chugging” as it fills. We had to add one to the Shelby to eliminate this same dilemma.
Maybe a small (3/8) vent line would help?

GregMarch 23, 2010 at 9:33 am #240798Got My new grill badge yesterday! Nearby is a shop that caters to the big rigs, and they sell a chrome bracket shaped like a P upside down, in the exact size of my badge bar, and… they sell them in two sizes!
I think chrome will work very nicely!

March 3, 2010 at 4:21 pm #240710I have NEVER had a door pop open, sorry if I gave that impression, but I am unhappy with the door lock assembly. And since I have been building/restoring, or otherwise altering cars for over 50 years, I am confident that I can handcraft whatever parts I will need. At first blush, it does not look that difficult, but then again, neither did getting married.
March 2, 2010 at 10:10 am #240707Try this link. I ordered the Manual, small unit

March 2, 2010 at 9:39 am #240706The issue is that the bolt, that part that actually holds the door closed, is VERY stiff, and will not engage the striker plate easily. Forcing the issue by slamming the door will only crack the fiberglass, which we all know is VERY bad. I ordered the new latches yesterday, along with the new striker plates. These actuators are well known in the hotrod community, and set the standard for everyone else. I know that I will be hand crafting a few parts, those that open the door for example. Pictures will be many on available when the time comes.
We do not mind being so close to the ground, but we do object at the possibility that the slightest bump can cause the doors to pop open. We also know that the seat belts will only keep our bodies in the car for identification in the event of an accident. It’s like driving a four wheel motorcycle…. fun, but you have to be alert at all times.
THAT is why I am changing the door latches.

February 17, 2010 at 10:19 am #240652Nice car, but 60K? Just how much of a market do they think there is? I think that those of us that own MG kit cars now, either VW or front engine, own the REAL MG kit cars. We care for them, baby them, take pride in them. Buying a 60K MG replicar vs a new corvette…hmmmm.

January 20, 2010 at 10:23 am #240555Speed is all about the amount of hp that reaches the rubber. I was turning low 9’s with my hemi, but ate rubber like crazy. It always comes to hp to weight and delivering the hp to the road.
I love my MG and the close ratio 4 speed makes it fun to drive.

January 19, 2010 at 10:17 pm #240552While I doubt if I could get the fronts off the ground, that 180+ hp I generate with my 2.3L engine does incite some puckering in certain places, especially if you don’t know it’s coming.
My car has the same hp to weight ratio the shelby does. Scary isn’t it?
I also doubt the chevette rear would sustain the stress of a well turned out engine, and I know from personal experience that if you are willing to risk it, 200 hp is available from a chevette engine…once. After that it’s just plain junk. The best I4 built by GM is the Iron Duke. Cast iron block, tight valve train, easy to work on, and easier to juice up. Takes a small turbo and makes an easy 190 hp all day.
After the ford 2.3L, that would be my choice.
