I’d rotate the steering box just a bit. It’s only one bolt. If the line was straight before, it’s not now, and you’ll rip your coupler. It’ll take some time, but it will happen.

Well the column has been moved up 4 inches. Pretty much followed the plan above but these was not need to cut the firewall as the BCW had sufficient space nor did I have to rotate the Steering box as the small diff was taken up by the coupler. Yes a new coupler is soon to be installed. Next I might still lower the seat for headroom but that can…[Read more]

If the VW based TD guys frequent http://www.thesamba.com these pedal mod guys advertise there all the time.
Wider pedal set-ups, heim joint clutch cables, etc. If you are not frequenting the site just to check out the ads and classifieds, you missing a lot of neat VW related…[Read more] -

Greg,
You need to figure out which manufacturer built your TD replica before you shop for parts. One size does not always fit all TD replicas.
The different TD replica manufacturers did not build to the same dimensions. Some are identical to the original TD. They can use original parts. $$$. Others are wider, longer, lower, taller. They need…[Read more] -

Because of all the different manufactures I would try to find who made yours. Prorbably a CMC/ Fiberfab. You might want to get a boat or car upholstery shop to make the top to fit. Mine is a little short on head room for me. I am 6 foot 1. Good luck and welcome aboard. What part of the country do you live in?

Hugh Coffey replied to the topic Seat Cushion Wood Dimensions in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 11 months ago
The dimensions are pretty much what you want for comfort. I am making new bottoms for mine, and I have cut the foam so it is a little taller at the side edges, to keep my bum in the middle, this requires cutting two wedges to glue to the top. Be sure not to make them too wide, this can cause problems when you put something in the door pocket. I am…[Read more]

Paul, There is a Classic Roadster Duchess VW based manual in the download manuals section located in the aqua section to the left. It’s quite detailed compared to some of the other ones.

Horn button on my BCW was standard issue three-bolt Grant. something like this should work. I think there’s a lot of those Grant Classic bits hanging around peoples’ garages.

I have a friend that owns a Duchess made by Classic Roadsters Ltd. Does anyone know where he can get a manual for this? Is there one in the Download Manuals sidebar that would be comparable?
Thanks -

Tom Colello replied to the topic Car show data sheet in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 11 months ago
Manufacturers Data Sheet shows the Allison weight with the VW drive train and a full tank of gas (14 gal) is 1718# with a weight ration of 68% rear and 32% front.
The Nissan power plant brings it up to 2478# with a full tank of gas 14 gal. They don’t specify the front to rear weight ratio on the front engine Nissan power plant. -
