Update:
I decided to try a fix on my seats over the weekend using seat strapping I bought at a upholstry shop. I cut out the center of my seat plywood and used the stapping underneath – seems to work real well. I will need to take it on a long drive when the weather gets better – I may need to tighten up the straps a bit if I sink down to much. I…[Read more] -

Roger that, Paul. And Redd– right on re the “patina!” I’m a big believer in the theory that a little pitting on the chrome and even a little rust on the bumpers gets these cars tons of unearned authenticity points. It also makes it easier to drive them without getting too worried about what might happen. Win-win.

BCWs: fake original style MG hood latches down near the bottom of the side covers. The hood hinges and latch are hidden. All others kits (that I’ve seen) have external hinges and so-called “suitcase latches” to close the hood.Allisons have real MG style side curtains that can be installed independent of whether the canvas top is deployed. Super classy!

My brake lights go out through the fenders into the engine compartment and then hug it. Not sure but looks like maybe back through the passenger compartment under the rug. There’s no wire loom under the pan and I didn’t see anything like that in the tunnel, so My guess is along the channel inside the car.The fronts are down under the front…[Read more]

I’d be out there now if I had the parts I need. Turns out my ball joints have bad booties.
And the tie rod ends–which looked pretty good when I wasn’t looking at them too closely–didn’t look so hot at second glance. So I await new ball joint boots and new tie rod ends. Really thought they’d be here yesterday but no. -

Will do on the Carlisle pics. That’s something I can handle. As for shows, I do believe there are one or two west coast meets you might attend. I’d love to drive Bridget out that way, but like you, gotta work. Maybe if/when I get fired.

Roger that, Ringo. I’m hoping to get good enough to weld in my e-brake handle between the seats. That tunnel sheet seems thick enough that a duffer like me might manage it, no? I figure it’s 2 or 3 times as thick as a fender or door panel.

EBay has a few for sale at any given time. $15 each seems to be the no-breaks price. But these look right at $19 for a set of four, with trim rings. And these here, marked as “Lucas VW” lenses might just be kit car parts originally… I think they’re all the same, but if I were actually buying them I’d check carefully, even at 99 cents.Bottom…[Read more]

Thanks, guys. Found that Harbor Freight mask & am looking up community college courses now. Also need an electrician to come by and drop a 220/240 outlet in the corner of the garage. Lotta stuff around this house that a good certified electrician ought to look at, so the welder gives me extra incentive to hire someone in and pay the price.
