Steve: post a picture using the tree with up arrow button above the “post reply” window. Fifth square from the left, top row. It’ll prompt you to browse your computer for a photo. It limits the size to 500 mb, so be sure to resize them first. Good luck.

That sounds a lot better than my methods. Experience counts for something, eh?

Your problem sounds similar to mine. My brake lights were not working. The turn signal lights on Bridget (a BCW) are different bulbs than the brake lights. But when I disconnected the ground wire to the rear brake lights, the turn signals still worked, but they also flashed the brake lights. The grounds are many and varied in these cars. In my…[Read more]

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I’ll be checking the fuses (again) as well as the grounds, hot leads bulbs and that infernal brake light switch on the master cylinder–replaced last week after the mishap. I’m sure she’ll come around.

Thanks, I’ll check them out. I kind of got the hang of shifting her with the sloppy bushing last weekend, but definitely going to do the bushing job before Carlisle.Tomorrow I’ll have a run at getting the brake lights working again. Tried to wire up a big high central brake light last Sunday and ended up with all of them off for good. As someone…[Read more]

I think you’ll make it, oldbuzz. You seem a productive sort. Unlike me. Every Sunday night I seem to render Bridget undriveable again.

Nice. New grease seals needed for the adjustable beam installation?

Nice idea, Chuck. The Bus wheels were big and flat (17 inches), so it makes sense that the stalks would clear. And now we know that they’ll swap into our columns. Or your column, at least. What year is your column, and what years will the bus stalk fit?

All done. Seems to work good. Also changed the oil. Got her out on a grocery run before dinner. Here’s the final pics:
mending the tin–using the shims I took from the driver’s door latch.
heat hoses can snake past the upper pipes. I know all you V-Dub guys already knew this.
all in. Pretty stock looking.
clamped to the heater box.

I just did what Rollie did on this forum. https://tdreplica.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=653&P N=1Ordered PN 3487 from Doghouserepair. Was under $100 and came right away.It comes with the gaskets you need–but you have to save the old “donut” gaskets that attach to the front pipes. For an experienced tinkerer, the job is not as tough as I made…[Read more]

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I was a little sheepish going into such detail on what might be routine stuff for a lot of you guys. But I haven’t drilled out a broken stud or bolt in 25 years or more, so to me it’s hazardous adventure. So I got the pipes back on today after work. Wondering if I can (or should) reuse these topside heat…[Read more]

All tapped. I don’t know if I deserve brownie points or a dope slap for going out an buying a $43 metric tap & die set to do this, instead of just tapping it with a 3/8 SAE thread and screwing in a half-inch bolt. So close to 13mm I don’t guess anyone would’ve noticed the difference. Still,

Maybe some day they’ll come in handy again. And I can say…[Read more] -

OK, Paul. The Manual says “remove front bumper.” Well, my front bumper should come off easy enough. Not quite sure what I’ll be using to work a 2-foot rod through six feet of tunnel. But since everyone else can do it, I probably can too. If anyone has that trick handy, let me know. And thanks again for the good and useful advice.

Thanks, Mark. I’m just now looking at the parts I might need for the shifter job. Not sure which bushings, etc. to order for a ’69. The good news it they’re all cheap.Pretty sure I’ll still have the inspection plate behind the new shifter location. Was thinking the rod could go in and out through that, since it’s so much shorter than stock. Not…[Read more]
