  •  Allen,    I searched for the Georgia DMV and their official website has tons of information about requirements ,forms, etc. If I’m seeing correctly , they do not title vehicles older than 1986. The forms have a blank for a vin# and I seem to remember them asking for a MSO as well. I’m thinking that you are going to need a bill of sale and per…[Read more]

  •  Mike,
Are you referring to the boots that connect the three sections of the intake manifold together? I was thinking about the cooling fan and the shroud and could not remember any boots nor could I         &nbsp ; relate to how it would make the engine run lean when it finally hit me that you were talking about the intake manifold not the fa…[Read more]

  •  Last year at the annual fund raiser car show at my grandson’s school, my white TD replica was parked beside a really nice Cobra replica. The owner was a super nice guy as well. When the trophys were presented , I got one and he did not. It was a peoples choice show and my grandson must have got all his friends to vote for his Papa’s car. It sure…[Read more]

  •  HI KEVIN ,Welcome to the forum. That’s a good looking TD and in my favorite color for these cars too. Are those air conditioning vents under the dash?

  •  Allen, Click on the search button at the top ,type in wire wheels and you will see a  bunch of info on wire wheels. I agree they do look great but they are expensive. MG Magic has the best price to my knowledge, but their wheels are not quite like the Daytons or Truspoke versions and I am not sure they have them for VWs. The ones I’ve seen st…[Read more]

  •  Jim. I saw your post about the JC Whitney pans on the other thread. One thing is certain . They will be a big improvement over the floor you have now.. You probably will not be driving your car in the adverse conditions that caused the originals to rust.Hope they turn out ok.

  •  OOPS!!! I type so slow that Paul had already answered befor I got thru.
Always follow his advice before mine.He has been there and done that ,I’m still learning.

  •  Jim, I probably should wait for Paul to answer your question but I’ll list some general stuff that will apply to all VW based cars.
     Disconnect and remove the battery.
Disconnect the gas line from the tank and remove the tank,
Disconnect any wires from the engine that are attached to the body
Disconnect the steering column from the steer…[Read more]

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic Door Seals in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 7 months ago

Allen, I got mine at ORIELLY AUTO PARTS. I’m sure Advance or Auto Zone would have it as well.  I used a flat strip about 3/4 ”wide and 1/8” thick self adhesive that comes on a roll. I attached it to the inside of the door flange. You may need a thicker seal if the door does not fit the body with about the same distance all around it.

  •  Allen, I found a price list from Classic Motor Carriages, the company that merged with FiberFab . The envelope it came in was postmarked 1990. The MGTD kit for the VW was priced at $7995.00. The wood rimmed steering wheel, wheel covers ,mahogany dash and guages added an additional $800. to $1000.
To those of us who are really ”in” to these c…[Read more]

  •  Allen, The bulbs just fit in the housing ,there are slots in the housing that line up with raised points on the bulb. A retaining ring with a screw at the bottom fits into a groove in the housing and around the edge of the bulb and tightens  around the bulb and the housing holding the bulb in place. Adjustment is accomplished by moving the e…[Read more]

  •  Allen, It is because the super beetle used strut front suspension . To use a super beetle pan would require welding an adapter to the front of the pan to attach the beam suspension the regular beetles used.. I don’t think the struts  would fit under the MG fenders.

  •  I pulled up the Maine DMV website and the application form to apply for title. It required a Maine address, if I looked at it correctly. That could explain the 45-90 day delay that GTN mentions as it may need to be titled in a person’s name in Maine and then transfered to the proper owner. What would happen if they did not follow thru and in…[Read more]

  •  Bill, If I remember correctly, Your car has been thru several owners but none of them completed the build and it has never been titled .Correct me if I am wrong about the above information.  I understand that you have a detailed bill of sale from the previous owner, but I’m guessing that at least part of the problem is that you have no i…[Read more]

  •  Jim,   Congratulations !!!!! I still have fond memories of  the day I got my first TD Replica so I share in your excitement.  We here are all looking forward to sharing your future experiences.

  •  If I’m reading the CMC manual correctly ,only the front springs are to be changed and cut, the rear ones are used as they come off the doner car.  The rears are varible rate  ,the front are constant rate  according to Rock Auto Parts.  Check their website, it lists several different springs showing the wire diameter, spring diameter, comp…[Read more]

  •  Bill, In the Download Manuals section ,under CMC Chevette ,on page 27, it instructs the builder to obtain Chevrolet part # 362193ATD spring. Cut one full coil off the bottom of the spring .
This is the CMC method to lower the front of the car. Be it the correct way to do it or not , it is the method they chose. If I am thinking right, the fr…[Read more]

  •  James, Thanks for adding the link. I tried but it would not connect for me. I still have a lot to learn about computers.

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum. My opinion is that the MG replica is a BIG improvement  over the motorcycle, but I have never ridden a motorcycle and have owned three MG replicas so you can understand my biased opinion. Here on the forum we have owners of all shapes and sizes some well over six feet and well over 200 pounds,by their own admission. T…[Read more]
