  •  Rollie, You did a real neat job with the fuel tank and rewiring too. It is almost like the one in my London Roadster except mine is mounted lower and the filler spout runs out the left hood side panel with a boat filler cap on the outside near the top of the louvers. It makes it hard to fill without getting gas down the side and on to the…[Read more]

  •  Lee,  Moss Motors and MG Magic  both have the original type replacements. I think they are about $100. ea at Moss Motors and about $80. at MG Magic.

  •  Paul,  Thanks for a detailed set of instructions. My VW based car only uses a ”on -off” switch and the wipers only run one speed. They left the VW harness attached to the motor and spliced additional wires to it to connect to the switch. They are well wrapped with electrical tape to form a harness.        &nbs p;         &nbs p;         &nb…[Read more]

  •  Tomscs,Check out the posts under the topic ”refreshing or painting the gelcoat”  for more info. If you choose to go the sanding route, I would recommend using a finer grit paper, 1000 or 2000 so you don’t cut too much too fast. Be sure to use plenty of water ,it makes the job easier.

  •  Ed, I have never actually seen an Allison but there was one on e-BAY a year  ago with a Nissan engine and mechanicals. It was simular in color to Richard Wobby’s car. I think it was in the Virginia area. The ad showed a bunch of good pictures. See Larry’s [from Florida] posts , I think the man who produced these cars passed away before many were produced.

  •  Bill,I looked at both of my cars and one uses the VW harness leading from the wiper motor but the wires then go into a well taped harness and I could not trace them any farther.
The Chevette based car has the VW harness removed from the wiper motor and individual wires attached [pluged in] to what appear to be spade connectors on the wiper m…[Read more]

  •  Bill,  Lay both doors on a flat surface and notice how they compare. Are they both shaped the same or does one seem to be more warped than the other?
Would it be possible to loosen the bolts that hold the scuttle to the top of the body side and shift the side panel slightly toward the inside of the car? It  may be necessary to slot the hole…[Read more]

  •  Bill, that 2×41/2 hole is where the kit planned for the radio to go.It probably required a hole on each side for the control knobs. You could enlarge it to fit whatever unit you choose .Just a suggestion,it’s up to you.

  •  Great looking car, I love the color combination.Your love for the car and your wife clearly shows in the quality of the reconstruction.

  •  Bill. Most owners mount the radio in the dash where the glove box door is on the original MGs. Most put the antenna on the right side of the cowel. Look in the photo gallery to see DanR and stickney’s cars for an alternate under dash mount. Ringo put his unit in the glove box and has some additional equipment behind the seat in another location.…[Read more]

  •  Charlie, You are not getting off to a good start. It’s a shame that someone’s quick fix has left you with a mess. I’ve heard of just using the donor car title by others ,but it seems to cause a problem sooner or later.I hope the seller will do right and that you can work something out to get your car on the road in a legally.
If all else fails a…[Read more]

  •  Bill, I have a 1986 Chevette manual that shows the 86 engine # to be  CT- .  I did not see anything starting with EY for 1986. My engine # is CT- 38123 ,which is one digit less than yours The CT in the manual also indicated a 2 barrel carb engine whigh mine is. I looked on the site that luvmytd linked to but only found V8 info, maybe I didn’t di…[Read more]

  •  A marine supply dealer [boat dealer] can provide you with products for the gelcoat and if it cleans up to your satisfaction and you are happy with the gloss, it will last for years with minimal attention.
If you deside to paint it ,that is also possible, with the choices being determined by the degree of quality you wish to accomplish.

  •  It can get complicated when registering a car that is titled in a different state as they all seem to have different requirements, usually envolving an inspection by a state inspector and each inspector has a different interpretation of the same rules. It is often  time consuming and frustrating  with no quick fix.
Since you bought it with jus…[Read more]

  •  Rick, There is one in Medford Or. It’s on e-bay item# 170477797204, The current bid is at $2500 , buy it now $4200. It looks like a Fiber Fab ,same family for 25 years. The ad doesn’t say, but it doesn’t look like it’s IRS looking at the angle of the rear wheels.According to Mapquest ,it’s about six hours from you. I’m just passing the info,I…[Read more]

  •  Charlie, It’s good to have you on the forum. Ask all the questions you need answered and ask as often as you need too. Lots of experience and information here but we all are still learning so there are no dumb questions though I  do sometimes give answers that are not always right. Either way ,we all learn from each other and have lots of fun i…[Read more]

  •  Here goes my ”humble opinion” again. The Duchess is a very desirable TD replica ,good quality and accurate reproduction. If everything is as the seller says it is ,it could still cost an additional$2000 to finish it. If you can do most of the work yourself and if it’s something you would enjoy doing, you would probably be ok.at that price Keep…[Read more]

Richard, I got 9” wiper blades and VW replacement arms at Oreilly Auto Parts. They had to order them but it only took a day or so to get them.
     blade # anc  20-09 $5.99 ea.    arm #anc41-01 $11.99 ea.

  •  Hi Rick, Welcome to the forum. I presently have one of each. The VW based cars are hard to beat from the simple and dependable side of things but in my opinion ,and it’s strictly my opinion, the front engine cars are more like the original MG.The Chevette based cars are comparable in power to the originals as well, while the Ford based ones are…[Read more]

Gene, I cannot help on the cable. Mark had already converted my car to the electronic type. It has no cable ,just wires.
It was nice of you to offer to check out the car ,it could save someone a long drive or a big dissappointment.
