And on his behalf, here is Rich Belfay’s first drive story, copied form another thread…
From Rich….
I went about 25 miles, top down. A little chilly still, around 50 degrees. It was kind of nice to have a working heater. The car perfomed perfect. Lots of power, smooth shifting, nice ride, frost heaves and all. I have to say that the V6 is…[Read more] -

Congratulations on the first drive Rich! Many more to come!
My first test drive in my Duchess was November 1982. I had it all done except for the interior…but just couldn’t wait any longer. I put a plastic milk crate on the floor and drive it around my condo complex.
Satisfied that it actually worked…I finished it up, then drove it for real…[Read more] -

Bill,Exactly the procedure some of the original TD kit manufacturers recommended for dealing with the “out of reach” parking brake handle! Kudos for working it out on your own!!!!

Ringo,What a great idea…hiding the 3rd brake light inside the spare!Wouldn’t work for my stock rims with TD hubcaps. But anyone with wires should copycat you!

Hey Rich.
Great advice!
I think the key point is the in person inspection, by the buyer or someone they trust, someone knowlegeable about kit cars.
Location, location, location are the first three rules of real estate. I think our equivalent would be inspection, inspection, inspection.
To the forum members, if you are considering a car outside…[Read more] -

Hi Bob,Welcome to the TD forum.Price (like beauty) is in the eye (checkbook?) of the beholder. But I think it’s safe to say that most well finished TD kits will sell around the $5,000 range. I’ve seen ’em advertised for $20k, but don’t recall ever seeing one sell for that.On the other end, we’ve heard stories on this forum of folks finding real…[Read more]

Hey Bob,
I second Mark’s (PinkMG)’s comment. Get the rear aligned before you do anything else. If it’s just ride height that is an issue after that, there are adjustable settings on the rear torsion tubes.
Larry is correct that a VW based TD kitcar has a rear bias to the weight distribution.
But…and it’s a big but (no pun intended), our kits are…[Read more] -

Hi Geoff,Frank is still the admin. I believe he sold his MG, but is still pretty active in VW circles. PinkMG and I can do some stuff. But the real admin authority rests with Frank. He manages the site, makes all the updates and works with the hoster. PinkMG is just being his usually hard— self (just kidding Mark!). Ultimately, it’s up to Frank…[Read more]

Unless you’re about 4 feet tall, you’ll have problems seeing out with the roof up. 🙂
While they vary in the details, all the TD kits need a full windshield frame to attach the front of the roof. Some fold over the frame and attach to snaps along the underside of the top of the frame. Classic Roadsters Duchess roofs have a small pocket sewn into…[Read more] -

Hey Bob,
Really, pinkmg and I didn’t doubt you. But it is really rare to see one of these cars with true roll bars. I love the cut down windshield too! -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Daytona Migi Newbie in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years, 8 months ago
Hi Bob,What did you mean by “two roll bars”?Are they really roll bars or are they more like electrical conduit?I ask because roll bars are pretty rare with MG TD kits. And the typical MG TD kit roof frame is simply two “hoops” of tubing, about the size of standard conduit.

Welcome aboard!
165R/15 is the standard size radials for a VW Type 1 (Beetle).
Tirerack usually has them (although I just checked and came up empty).
