PGA,
Nice color buff.
Good job on the chrome, too.
I think the key to getting that final finish on oxidized stuff is to be patient and be ready for some sore arms.

Welcome to the group!
Sorry, I have an electric speedo so I don’t know any part numbers. However, you might check with the manufacturer of the gauge. They may require something defferent than the stock Pinto cable.

Agreed it’s a good price.
Why not give MG Magic in Florida a call. They have lot of parts for the replicas and are very helpful. They can give you a good idea of what’s out there and what the price will be. If you have to get the parts from Moss it’ll cost ya. Some parts may have to be scrounged since they seem to be getting more rare. …[Read more] -

Steve,
I’m stepping waaaay back in time and I might be way off base, but I didn’t read if you had adjusted the valves, so here goes. The exhaust noise you hear from the carb could be an exhaust valve staying open a little too long, whether from timing off or perhaps valve lash and old weak valve springs. Either way, it can still run pretty g…[Read more] -

Make sure you use a separate ground wire on the lights, don’t trust the mounting bracket to ground the lights. Here’s another good sight on using relays on lightshttp://www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/WiringHeadlightRelays.htm

GeoffBetcha it’s a connection that got knocked loose or put back in the wrong place. I would check and double check from the starter circuit back up to the switch and run circuit. Don’t assume that because you didn’t remove a wire yourself that it didn’t come loose while you were under the hood.Don’t you just love electrical problems

Steve Crites replied to the topic wireing schematics in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 8 months ago
Buddy, I agree with Larry that any extra time spent marking the wires and connections now will pay off. Even if you find a schematic, the original owners may not have followed the color codes. I highly recommend besides diagrams and photos that you mark the wires with duct tape (masking tape gets knocked off too easy) and a sharpee. The di…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic gauge question in the forum My Project 15 years, 9 months ago
Clee,Seems that most times the sending units are specific to the brand of gauge. The OE senders won’t work with after market gauges, esp the oil pressure. Fuel senders have a wide range of ohms depending on the donor. You could check the sender with an ohm meter and see if it matches the input required by your gauge, (if you can find out the ra…[Read more]

Sure is Pretty!I’m trying the breather cap on mine, so far no leaks.Yeah, betcha it’s a ground problem. My gauges and turns ground to the steering column, and it wasn’t a very secure ground to start with.

Larry,I had some luck at an RV/camper dealer a few years ago. However when I went back recently for another project they mainly had vinyl edging, no more of the 50’s style metal edge molding. I’d try RV dealers first, then old time hardware stores (not the big box stores, they look at you like you’re nuts when you ask for metal edge molding.) I…[Read more]

That big bulge on the right side cowl looks really out of place. It’s probably for the Toyota A/C but it just jumped out at me. I think our’s are more accurate reproductions.

Besides. I wouldn’t go a penny over $56,000.

Steve Crites replied to the topic Weber carb rebuild in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 11 months ago
Larry,
A year or so ago I met a retired man who said he had worked at the Classic factory and told me the factory built cars came with Chevette rears unless they were specifically ordered otherwise. He said the Chevette rear suspension was a drop in compared to the Fords which required cutting the leaf springs. Ringo40197.8939583333 -

It’s a manual progressive linkage so it basically starts when my foot gets about halfway into the fast pedal. Before the rebuild it felt like standard, normal acceleration. The big differance now is that when I punch it, it starts winding up at 1800 to 2000 rpm and gets to 3500 and climbing so much quicker than before that I may need to lighte…[Read more] - Load More
