I would be interesting to see how the Fiberfab VW model compares with the Ford Front engine model for weights.

Allen,
I took my car and had it weighted at the local town dump with has a pretty accurate truck scale for weighting trash, they didn’t charge me. I weighted the car with the front tires on the scale then just the rear tires and then the total car. Race cars get corner weights with four scales one on each tire so they can be properly tuned. My wheels are probably original equipment (1978?). They are chrome rims with chrome wire wheel baskets. They came with the mostly assembled car when I purchased it. I probalby would have gotten some more authentic looking rims but since these came with the purchase I’ll use them.

The cobra is a Factory Five.
http://www.factoryfive.com/
It’s got a little more pick up then a vw, 13.2 and 105 mph in the quarter mile. It’s a 92 Mustang drivetrain with a few extras.
My td is based on the 4 cyl Ford platform about 72 hp on a good day.

Pretty easy to tell as gelcoat is much thicker and you should be able to spot and see if there were any imperfecitons in the fiberglass mold process.
Gelcoat is what you would find on a boat. You should be able to tell once up close. -

Also notice
“It was just gone over by European Auto Classics”
Why would you need this “European” expertise on a GM drivetrain 🙂 -

I’m using these on my car. Not sure about how they would work with side curtains as I don’t use them.
These brackets are thru bolted thru the windshield frame.

I you have a mustang 5.0 you need to go to factoryfive.com and get a cobra.
I would say 225 hp in a mgtd replica is way overkill. -

I’m an antique with a much newer car “2008”.
I tried to get an old plate but in NH they use the date the car was first Titled, in my case 2008. -

Montie.
On a cool autumn afternoon the top up even without the side curtains is warmer then with no top at all. I don’t have side curtains so my cold weather testing is somewhat limited. -

Rob Baker replied to the topic Has anyone made an MGTD looking trailer?? in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 1 month ago
I made up a trailer hitch for my Ford based MGTD this year. Only to pull a small sailboat (Force 5). The hitch is on the car but I haven’t road tested it yet.
To many other things to play with, if I had one more wife I wouldn’t get anything done 🙂 -

I made my own, got the material from
estreetplastics.com
6″ x 12″ – Clear Polycarbonate Lexan Sheet – 3/16″ Thick 4 $3.99 Total $15.96
I made 4, two for backup. They were easy to cut on my bandsaw. Just have to be careful. I used a template I got from James only I made mine taller to use the full 12″ of the stock.
