Ditto Mossberg’s setup for Bridget. ‘Cept I don’t know what color the wheels are–probably the usual “wheel silver,” which is close to Moss Motors’ Official MG Wheel Gray and 1/4 the cost. (Ask me later about how to get the correct bronze color for the center instrument plate without shelling out $22 plus shipping to Moss, and I’ll tell you). Some…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Wire Wheels Supplier in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 7 months ago
I don’t know anything, but I think you might find wheels by looking for offset or backspacing first, and then worrying about bolt pattern. The Speedster guys are always getting their VW bolt patterns changed to fit Porsche or other (narrow) 5-bolt wheels. They say it’s not too expensive to do.Our wheels are 15 x 5.5, with I think 2 3/4 inches…[Read more]

Save what’s left of your top so your top maker can use it as a pattern.

You could go all TD-righteous and put in some 3/4-inch marine plywood. I’m not recommending this.

Some of the subtle differences between the various TDs:1949 and early 1950: solid wheels (not the 15-hole kind)1951 (or thereabouts) flat-faced speedo and tach gauges give way to dished typelate 1952 or early ’53: windshield wiper motor moved to the center of the windshield (on top), from the passenger side. Three-bowed top frame replaces two-bow…[Read more]

I’d say about a zillion to one. It’s almost a case of ‘don’t open i; it’s worth more in the original box’–like with the allegedly collectible toys you see on ebay.I never understood that concept. I mean, if you can’t play with something, what’s the value in it?Anyway, amazing tale, Allen. I like your slogo too–“ordinary man into a…[Read more]

Might try a judge in your county. Just go to circuit court and ask the clerk. Court clerks are helpful, and sometimes they like a challenge. In my experience, they’re always glad to deal with someone who isn’t a belligerent criminal or a angry recent divorcee pissed about how much his wife got for her and the kids. Your problem might interest…[Read more]

I think you’re right; wipers, key switch & much electrical are VW items. The steering column mount on Bridget is a straight piece of perforated angle iron–same kind of stuff you mount overhead garage door tracks with, available at Home Despot & etc.Mirrors are easy, inner door panels you can make. Hood latches are probable pretty easy too. My car…[Read more]

Glad to have you, JDD. These things are fun to tinker with. The 2.3 guys’ also have some fast ones. Have fun, post pictures and, by all means, cruise! More than half the fun is the reaction you get out on the road from regular people.

I stand corrected. I cut a full coil off each new front spring in my old Nova, which lowered the nose a healthy inch or inch and a half (which was my aim & purpose & which looked mean), but she rode like a brick thereafter and ate ball joints like bar peanuts on account of I changed the angle of the lower control arms. Every time I took her in for…[Read more]

Cutting springs is generally bad unless you’re going autocrossing. Even then. You lower the ride height but increase the spring rate (ride stiffness). Another solution will present itself.

Got this one on ebay from a guy in Colorado who casts them. He posts every couple months or so with a “buy it now” price, which he recently discounted. Paid $32 I think. Not as good as $8, but not as bad as $45 and got the MG crest and a pretty cool curved look.
